I'm wondering if anyone has any info / advice on pulling a 47 Buick Roadmaster engine. (manual transmission of course) My 42 GM manual does not have much information. As far as I can tell I will have to pull the bell housing with the engine as well as disconnecting the clutch / shift linkage and gas line etc. Thanks in advance! Don
last one i did, i pulled the trans first then the engine. get a beefy cherry picker or A frame. those things weigh a ton, and you gotta get it up pretty high to clear the body. simple enough though.
I'm just wondering why I'd have to pull the tranny first. Can't I pull the bell housing and engine together??? Thanks!
I've never done the straight 8 (assuming that's what you're pulling), but I see no reason why you couldn't do the bellhousing and engine in one shot, as long as you've got the radiator and hood off the car...any chance you live near the Alexandria/Osakis,MN area and need a place to get rid of that motor you're pulling out? Heck, I'd even help you pull it if you were close enough of a drive, I'm unemployed and haven't got shit else going on lately, it'd be fun...
Actually I'm determined to keep the old engine running and in the car. The rod bearings are out and they are babbited so I'm looking to hopefully find 320 rods somewhere - maybe here - or figure out how / where to get them converted to take bearing inserts. I'm in Mora - thanks for the info and offer to help!
I am guessing here that the Buick is a lot like the same year GMC. Which I pulled plenty of times. Usually with the transmission, but yes it would come out with the bellhousing on and the trans in the car. Had to remove the flywheel to remove the bellhousing.
