I'm needing help with ideas for my project car. It's a 50 linc and i wanna do this to it.
    http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/697714.html
Guy will talk to me but really wants to sell his so is not much help as to where to start for parts for mine.I really want to know what cars i can get parts off of to convert mine to disc brakes 11 inch hopefully cause it will be super heavy and i want to do away with the king pin set up and go with somthing more redily avalible in parts stores.and for the ford 9" out back i know i need the measurement from my rear from backing plate to backing plate.
    already have a 460 c/6 combo.
Don't have the means to do much more than salvage yards and parts houses.like the streed rodders.
I need this to be low buck as possible and safe.
Thanks in advance and sorry in advance to you period correcters.

  2. Street rodders call a 1-800 number.

Consider a Jag XJ sedan front end, they unbolt off the donor car, you'll probably have to fab an upper shock mount at the least but it might work for you. Beyond that, it depends if your Lincoln is the baby with the same shell as a Merc or the bigger one.

I don't want a street rod i just want a safe easily maintained front end(cause i keep being told the combo of the car and engine is going to need disc brakes way too heavy). And at a realistic price.
I have seen the ifs complete front end kits for 3 grand and thats not what im going for
WOW jag front end should find alot of those.
What may i ask is the difference from what i wanna do from, street rodding, rat rodding, hot rodding,or just building a car in my garage and needing some realistic, friendly, low cost parts advice.
Please tell me what class im in other than moron for asking for help
it's a 1950 baby lincoln with the same body as the merc just 4 door and longer front clip

Yup..at least my fiddy merc has them. I'm sure the linc's are the same.

You prolly won't find anything to bolt on in the stock location. Jamco makes a kit for disc brakes. You don't have to remove your uprights for machining just bolt the shit on. It still uses king pins though. Call em and pick their brains. They are a sponsor here too.

Your not a moron for asking for help. Truth is there is no really cheap way to do what you want to do. It always costs much more than planned. If your car has the same frame measurements as the 49-51 Merc, the wheel mounting surface to the wheel mounting surface of the rear of a stock 49-51 Merc is 61 1/4 in. That is the exact same as a 1971-73 Mustang 9 inch rear. Do a computer search of 9 in rears to see what other years might fit. Your best bet will proabably be to subframe the front. 70's Camaro and Trans Am front ends can be used but check and see that they arn't too wide otherwise your wheels will stick out beyond the fenders. I have heard of Nova subframes being used too. However you can buy narrow upper and lower control arms to pull in the wheels- NOT CHEAP. Do a search on HAMB to see what other 49-51 merc and lincoln folks have done.
Just be sure you do your homework BEFORE you start buying parts. You will have to buy new wheels too as you present bolt pattern is 5 x 5 1/2.

  11. Says in the ad he used JAMCO ball joint/disc brake front end.
