I am bringing my 1967 Mark Williams fed. Hilborn injected 377 sbc. I have run the bracket races at MoKan with it before. 5.29@131 1/8th. I haven't run it on the 1/4. Is this race run on the 1/4?
Who's running alcohol? I built a sbc for a friend we switched over to alcohol using hp950 had the car out for the first time last Friday it was more of a tune up for the driver than the car, at the end of the run the temp had dropped to 140 degrees. Run # 1 it spun the tires 14x31 goodyears for 150ft let of 4x rana 6.0, #2 changed tires 10.5 x 33 hoosier's ran a 9.71 and#3-4 the same he was shutting down 100ft before the traps at the billboards that post the time because of nerves, poor lighting a 1/8 outlaw track. Now for the questions how do you know how much timing to run was set at 40degrees running 144 jets with power valves in place and what should the plugs look like, the first two thread are discolored the ground rainbow color 1/3 from the base where it attaches to the shell.
Thanks for letting me know the race will be 1/4 mile. I went and got some new front tires for the old rail this evening. I didn't want to run 160-170 mph on my old dry rotted treads. I'm not quite ready to die yet, although there are a lot worse ways to go. Again thanks for the info. I'm new on here and it's appreciated. When I figure out how to do it and get more time, I will post some pics of the digger. Thanks, Dusty
I did do a search before asking you guys and some of the info wasn't too clear or contradicted what I had found earlier. I just received a egt scanner and probes going to give it a try on Saturday, it's during the day so the driver/owner will see the end of the strip. We install a driving light on the fed so if we return at night
I don't know what you're running, stack injection maybe? I'm not an expert on Alky, but if you have exhaust gas sensors and a data recorder, your on the right track. Basicly, you record the temps for a few runs. If you have one or two that are a lot hotter than the others, they are too lean, if a cylinder is cooler, it is too rich. After you get them evened out, then you tune the entire engine with the main byp*** pill.
Jeff, look for the ground strap discoloring as heat increses in the combustion chamber as you lean it down. No discoloration - its fat. Strap is discolored now you are getting somewhere. Discoloration 2 threads down on the plug and you need to stop leaning it down unless you have spare pistons and like living on the edge. Looking forward to watching tomorrow. Brad
we're running the fed tomorrow if it doesn't rain, installed egt probes see what I get for readings. It's in the day so the driver will be able to see. thank you guys
We won't be bringing the A/fuel car tomorrow, but for sure next year. It's a 225 in SPE car. 4 in 354 on 90%. Engine not back together from when we hurt it last year. See ya all tomorrow. Lippy Hi Brad!! See ya tomorrow!
Now that you mention it, guess we didn't run side-by-side. I was concerned with my individual performance anyway. First run, I ran a 9.45 @ 140, second run, 9.32 @ 141. That's my fastest run ever, so I'm happy. My patched radiator blew after the run was over, so that was a bummer. I removed it and sat out the third run. Finals run got off to a good start, then my gl***es shifted on my face. Found out it's impossible to drive over 120 mph, looking through the bottom half of a bi-focal. Had to shut down. Overall, a very fun day.
we took the fed back to the outlaw track made 4 runs before we got rained out made changes to the carb the motor sounded sharper, would spin the first 150 ft then lift the frt wheels best run was 5.73-118mph turning the 406" 9000 in the traps.we changed the gears this week from a 4.86 to a 4.10 going back next week I'm trying to talk my friend in taking the car to a better track but he's nervous about running a 1/4 What gears are you guys running. The car is a 160'' fed,406sbc= carb on methanol,pg, 10.5x33 hoosiers, weights 1600lbs wet with driver, are we taking too much gear out?
We had the blue and white blown alcohol car. I'm just learning the car, so we didn't go fast, but had a great time. I didn't want to run anyone side by side, just being careful. Had a great time. Getting in was a zoo, but Dave at the gate was calm and collected even though I wasn't. Great guy and thanks to all. Everyone did a great job. Thanks. And special thanks to those who took the time to post pictures. We didn't get any, so the ones posted are really great for us. Elmo
I'm going on 62 and just learning that part of the fun and if you stop learning you might as well be dead. That is why I ask questions and each car is unique
