went to look at a hemi in a 56 chrysler new yorker it had imperial valve covers on it and i could not find any numbers on it. right on the top of the block i found the number 1713 stamped and the raised letters D N right around the corner from there on the passenger side of the motor. now on the manifold i found the numbers 1637625-2 and 10755.

can anyone help me identify this motor i want to make sure its not a desoto hemi. the guy who owns the car does not know anything.

Imperial valve covers will not fit a DeSoto. Chrysler only.

The intake number is right for a '56 354 Chr, just as it should be. Use code would be on a flat infront of the vally cover.

What is wrong with ID info on Scooters Hemi-Tech file??:D Grab a couple of beers, it is a long read.

If the numbers are simply not there it indicates that the block/short assembly/long assembly was replaced with an over-the-counter unit.
Does it look like it belongs there? Everything appears to fit? Accessory placement is not cobbled?
Because it is in a 56 and without ID, I'd assume that it is a 354, although a 55-56 331 would also fit under the stock intake and all of the usual accessories would be right at home.

What's your beef with Desoto hemis? Shit, I'd take any hemi that was there for the taking...

If you are buying the whole car, for use as a car, then $2500 is in the ball park depending on condition. If you are buying the car just to get the engine then you are way over market value, unless you have plans to part the rest out on ebay or some such.
