i have my eye on a '59 jag sedan with a 501 caddy motor and auto trans.
it was running a couple years ago, but kept overheating. so the guy sticks a radiator UNDER the car to help keep the thing from overheating. didn't work too well.

i'm thinking about getting the car, but need a few suggestions as to what i may be able to do about the hot engine.

thanks for the advice in advance!

Have a look here - http://forums.jag-lovers.org/ . The Lumps archives probably has a solution in it. If not, join the list and post the question - very knowledgeable guys there.

Custom made rad (thick, double p***) will take care of it, if that is the only problem.

What model sedan ? What radiator ? A second one under the car ? I do Jags, and can't imagine where one could be mounted under the car..and do anything ?

The XK6 in these ran hot if not well cared for..so a 501 Caddy won't have much chance...

    I'm a long term member at Jag Lovers..great resource..but I don't think I have ever seen a MK sedan with a 501 Caddy.

The grille is quite small on most older Jags. My XK120 cools very well. I used to have two radiators..a second mounted in the right fender. It cools better with the 18"X17" Griffin two core crossflow than with the old 4 core vertical.
    350 SBC..BW T-10 in Tucson heat.
    2X1" tubes versus 4X1/2" tubes

  5. Lumps rule. I have an OT xjs with a 454 in it. It's a blast to drive (or was until I tore it apart to start fixing all the rust...stoopid rusty Jag.) We need pictures.

Unbelievable post as I just bought a 1960 Jaguar Mark9 yesterday to make a sled out of it. Every single piece is there but the motor and ****** so I was thinking of sliding in a LS1 with the fuel injection but keeping the outward appearances stock except for ride height and it would be slammed on wide whites with some nice chromed wire wheels. Jaglovers is a good source for info? Its missing some disc brake pieces so I am also thinking of putting in a mustangII frontend and a ford 9" as it would give me more choices on braking.

i also happen to know where a 3.0 s.h.o. motor is. it's supposed to go in a cobra kit car, but the guy might be persuaded to go in another direction.
whaddya think about dropping that in. with maybe a five speed behind it..........

    just thinking

That would probably fit right in without much modification and you could set the 3.0ltr back and then setback a larger radiator for better cooling. What 59 Jag is it?

Very Nice. You have a 1959 Jag Mark9 saloon. They came with a 3.8 six cylinder that was later used in the XKE. They have a lot of cool features built into the interior like the rear seat has fold down picnic trays and the door post has flower vases built into them. The dash is ugly but the rest of car would look cool on air ride sitting on the ground with wide whites and chrome tru spoke rims. This is the same exact car I just drug home and will begun building as soon as my 1935 woody is finished.
