They have a cruise on Sat mornings 8-10. Has anyone ever been to it? I'm going to the store for a visit while we're in Cali Sept 10-13 for son's wedding in Santa Clarita. What about the cruise at Bobs Big Boy Burbank on fri nite? Hope we don't get a FLAME job while we're out there. Mikey
Anyone who lives around El Lay has been there many times. I've been going for over 30 years. In June, after getting kicked off jury duty of what was to be a 90 day civil trial, I went immediately to Autobooks to pick up a bunch of goodies...just to celebrate!
I'd hit anti-donut thing first on Saturday morning. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170087
seems like the same place...looked the same pretty much for years. The last big change is when it moved from across the street long time ago...
Great place, great selection and great guy. Went this summer to buy some books and was really happy. Lots of old magazines, too.
Haven't been during their cruise, but the book store is awesome. I left there with several current and out of print selections.
Way back when, I used to ride my 10-speed over there and thumb the European racing mags until Harry Morrow got tired of me and threw me out. Great place. The current owners are great people. Kurt O.
Bring lots of loot. That place can be quite addicting!!! I can't remember the last time I left without spending a hundred bucks.
I've been there a few times, great selection of books. I was at the cruise last year when the all girl car club showed up
I go every saturday, with my hot rod, before heading over to my shop. Not the greatest turn-out, but if you've never been, don't miss it. Free donuts too, if you're into that sort of thing.
Thanks to everyone for the info. Will be there with a Texas drawl and my striping stuff just in case we run out of $ buying books and paying for that wedding. I'll be walking around with an Austin Speed Shop shirt and a black flamed and striped cane. Will be fun. Mikey "does bad things to good cars" www.MikeysPinstriping.com
Book store is great, cruise a little slow and Bob's is always good. If going to Bob's get there round 6 pm and if in a rental, don't park in lot please.
Oh please do share how one leaves Autobooks with only spending a "C'' note? Mikey, On behalf of "The Peoples Republic Of Kalifornia" I'd like to thank and welcome you on your visit. Please feel free to look around and see the sites, visit the amu*****t parks, the beaches and the kultural centers. I'd especially like to thank you for the moneies you'll spend here, whyle you're visiting. You see, we have abit of a financial problem and for every dollar you spend, well ,that's one less we'll have to send to the gov'ment to fund the madness! Upon completion of your visit, should you see any peoples who don't look productive, kindly take them with you. Thanks again, and enjoy your visit. S****ey Devils C.C. "Embrace The Vulgarity"
Visited while in town for the roadster show a couple of years ago. Awesome place, awesome guy. Left with a free Rodders Journal poster (now framed in my cave), and an Autobooks-Aerobooks license frame (hanging in my garage), and plenty of magazines for the flight home. I'll be back.
Hey Pimpin, I know it is serious out there but what you say is real funny! I'm getting a new daughter in law who will be residing in Texas, so I'm playing a bit part in the Cali drama with that. She worked for JC Penney so I'guess my son is taking some $$ out of the system. But we will be spending something while in town. I'll leave a few bucks in the bookstore tip jar Saturday Sept 12th for Jay and the rest of the needy. Big Daddy-O, we'll be in a 08 Ford van and will park away from the cruise. Any parking close by? Mikey
I ALWAYS stop there when I'm in LA, usually before going to Bob's Big Boy cruise on Friday night since it is near by. I dream of owning a bookstore like that! I only wish an automotive bookstore of that caliber could be supported in Ohio.
