Hello to all: I am in the process of swapping the automatic in my '62 Thunderbird for a T5, along with a few other small projects, and have ordered some parts from "Sunman Cl***ic Ford". The parts were paid for on May 28 (this year) and I still haven't received them. I have tried to contact these people via "email", but to no avail. Has anyone else had problems with these people? Cheers, Art R.
Well, maybe you are in trouble. Forget e-mail-I'd call them: (405) 382-0878. Their website says they are closing in January due to health issues-seems the guy has Lyme Disease-wasn't aware that OK was Lyme territory-PA sure is. I'd also PM some HAMBer's in the area and ask them to visit the guy and either get and forward your parts or lean on him a bit to get yours out. I'd be sympathetic about his health issues, but then again his website has an entire page of postings about why the weather has delayed his filling orders over the last several years. Maybe so, but that's kind of unusual. Keep us posted
5window: Thanks for the heads-up. I did receive a rear window from them, and actually it was quite reasonably priced, and very well crated for shipping. The rest of the order, however, is a different story. I'll try phoning tomorrow. Cheers, Art R.
I was able to contact Sunman by phone today, and apparently they are closing down at the end of the year due to illness, but still attempting to ship out existing orders. They say my parts are all there, just awaiting shipment, but this has been delayed due to the owner's illness. They have promised to contact me when they have a shipping date. I'm OK with that - being sick isn't fun, but I just find it frustrating when a business fails to respond to "emails" after they have received payment for an order. I'll let you know how things progress - but I'm guessing it might be a while. Meanwhile, I'm going to proceed with the trans swap on the old T'bird. I think I have all the parts I need except a flywheel, clutch fork, clutch disc, and pressure plate. Cheers, Art R.
Just curious on why a T-5 in a T-bird ? Wouldn't an AOD be better ? Sorry to hear about all your bad luck & waiting for parts . If this guy has Lyme Disease , it is really painful and can kill you at any time . Bad thing is you can never get rid of it ! I am in the woods here in Pa. a lot but spray with tick spray before I ever get near the woods . My dog got the tick fever 5 years ago in a January thaw ! He is alive but the pain in his joints is bad ! Lyme is a nasty thing from something so damn tiny !
I knew a guy that got that. He lived but IIRC it kicked his *** for a long time and he was real lucky. He took it much better than I would have.
Retro: Yeah - I know. It sounds weird having a 5 speed manual in a '62, but I just like standards better, and the auto in the old girl is tired anyway. I figure I'm saving probably around 100lbs. off the front of the car, which should help the under-steer a bit. As well, if I ever get around to it, I'm going to replace all the shocks with way better ones, possibly try to find a rear sway bar that will work, stiffen up the rear springs a bit. This car was never really fancy - no options other than power-steering, brakes, auto, radio, and leather interior - no power windows etc.. Just what you need - nothing that you don't.- It will never be a racer, but I'm thinking it should be a lot more interesting to drive - and might surprise a few people. - an old man's hot-rod - should suit me just fine. The AOD would be a lot easier, but less fun in the end I figure. Cheers, Art R.
