That seems cheap for that corner of a house. Maybe it was the rusty junk that kept the price down? Tim
They did that at a show I enetred last year. Someone brough a Model A sedan, and set it on the ground with tires leaning up against the body. Then they wheeled a big block Chevy in on a dolly and propped it up with cinder blocks. It won the Un-finished cl***, while the '27 Track T that I drove to the show and entered in the same cl*** got nothing. The guys who got the trophy were talking like they had really accomplished something big!!!
if you had a cheap 4 door sedan and some coupe parts to put the quarters back together you could build yourself a pretty expensive car starting with nothing. converts are like woodies. even the leftover s****s are worth big bucks. that would be a bargain for a guy with the tools and shop and skills. what's a nice 40 vert going for?
it seems like a really huge pile of $$cash$$ for a huge pile of parts but being it's a convertable puts it in a different league. if those parts were sitting tacked together on a stock ch***is with enough wiring to fire the engine they would be asking 20k and probably get it. a decent older resto driver is 50k! maybe if i buy ans sell enough houses in cal. i'll treat myself with one from my profits because thats the only way its gonna happen for me. what damm why did ya have to wake me up!
A friend of mine bought this junk 5W coupe along with some 36 roadster doors, cowl and upper quarter pieces. And turned it into this the next weekend. You could do the same with that pile of parts.
Ok, I know I am going to catch flack for this, but here it goes ... that's not a terrible deal! The fenders and firewall and stuff are junk, but the cowl, door tops, and rear tray look pretty good. Anybody could take this and a $5000 coupe and make a $20,000 convertible with just a bit more work than a good chop. If you want a 'vert, this is the way to go IMO.
Yes, you have lost touch. You need to watch more TV - why in one week condensed into a one hour TV show they can have that showroom ready for Barrett Jackson & then it will sell for over a) $50,000 or b) $75,000 or c) it's got a hemi $225,000
****, I have a lead on one in about that same shape. Think I better go get it. And yeah, it's not so bad when you look at it as a conversion kit to turn a coupe into a convertible. We had a coupe someone started to make a half-***ed ragtop out of and a guy wanted it bad enough he swapped an old Grand National ch***is (supposedly a Petty car but not verified), a '35 Ford coupe stock car with a complete ch***is and uncut body, and two quarter midgets in pieces for it. But it was up and rolling on four wheels and came with fenders, so...
I wouldn't buy it for that much.Crazy Im still in shock over the cars we use to pay 1000 for ,Paying 4,000 now .That is a pretty rare car.Its probably a 39 .If it is a 39 It's worth it.If it's a 40 forget it .Don't know much about 41 .Just didn't look like one to me.But what do I knowI Think the listing said Rat rod for sale Rust free
judging by the doors, it looks to be a 39. 41's the doors had a rise towards the front and 40's had front vent windows. I wouldn't pay the money, but if the pieces were straight and solid and somebody already had the coupe and was DYING for a convertible I could see someone buying it.
EXACTLY! Yeah, it's a pile of $$$ for a pile of rusty ****, but with a thousand dollar (you have to admit that those still exist) sedan body and a couple spools of wire, an ambitious guy could have a 6K '40 'vert. Some folks need to take their blinders off around here. If the guy who bid (and hopefully pays) 5100 for that puts a build thread up next month about that thing, up on wheels with an Ardun, Hemi, or the like, and some photos of it as a roller, tacked together and looking like a car, the same people calling this crazy are gonna say it's the best build they've ever seen.
I'd only buy it to resell and make some money and at that price it isnt likely to happen so I would p***. I have no idea why anyone would even want a '39/'40 convertible anyway.................ugly car.
The only way that would work is if someone had a coupe body and really wanted a convert. The cowl and dash, doors, and top bows are about all you need, plus a few hundred hours of bodywork, to turn your ratty coupe into a convert. If you can do the work, it's an expensive pile of parts but may be the cheapest way to get a convert if you really have to have one and are looking at keeping it a long time. Way more than I'd pay-I'd rather a coupe.
Yeah Denise, you must have been smok'n crack when you bought that!!! I wouldn't a given over a hunnert for it... Brian
me personaly, i would never pay that much for something i could'nt roll onto a trailer or drive away, but remember, there's an *** for every seat, but in this case there....are....no....seats. let's face it, if you need these parts, and can't find 'em anywhere else, looks like you're gonna have to pay what the man wants. as far as building a car around these parts, not my cup 'o tea, but if that's what you're into, i say go for it. post pics!
