I need some help with rivet gun selection. I called Aircraft Spruce and they have no one who actually has used any of the guns. I will be using .063 alum to 1/8 steel, making deck lids, hoods, seats etc. Is a 4x too much gun for this. Rivet sizes will be about 1/8in. dia. They don't even know if their bucking bars are tungsten. They were no help. Any advise would be appriciated.

Not trying to be thick headed - but what are you doing? What are you wanting to do? Bucking rivets or shaping/planishing metal???

    If your shaping......I have a 3X that I've used for shaping/planishing .060" 3003-H32 and 5052-H32 works good but isn't over powered.
I doubt it'd be much good for steel shaping - light planishing only.

I used a 3X on 1/8" standard aluminium non icebox rivets. Much bigger or harder rivets will require a larger gun. You can always adjust a larger gun down, but it will be physically larger. Oh and spruce sells steel bucking bars.

3X is plenty for 1/8' rivets.
