yea, i knew what COPO stood for, and what it was, i just never heard of anyone doing it before the mid-late 60's. learn more by accident here than design elsewhere

I watched them restore this car on dream Car Garage. They did a fabulous job. Of course it's easy when time and money is no object. Still a rare and beautiful car, prettier than most girls. Here's mine but it's just a driver. Rich

I'm not much of a Vette guy myself but, if I was given one, I'd hope it would be that one.

let me wipe the drool off my keyboard that Vette is bad ***

you know what they say ''the vette gets them wet''

  9. I'd own that car in a heartbeat if I won the lottery, was a foot shorter and 75 pounds lighter.

  10. Gotgas,

The COPO items on that car would include the heavy duty brakes and suspension, vents on the brakes, and air ducts that run from the grille to the brakes at least (can't remember the others at the moment). The younger brother of the fellow I worked for in Philly restores solid axle Corvettes and has done a number of "air box" cars- he had one on a rotisserie one time when I stopped by- got to see the air ducts (they were fibergl*** as well and molded to the inside of the body) which was pretty cool!

From what he told me, RPO 579 (I think that's design#) Corvettes are NOT enjoyable cars to drive unless you're on a track.

  11. I'm a Ford guy and I even like that car!

BTW Ten year old cars look like that in Ontario!

I'm not a ******** 'vette fan, but I can admire ones like this.

A couple of years ago my dad calls and says "Are you sitting down? I have some news. there's been a death...."

We have a family friend who had a car just like this except it was black interior car and with fairly low miles. Factory black on black on black fuelie car. He was the second owner I believe and had owned the car for most of it's life.

Seems that he had decided to take his car out for a nice ride and some lady blew an intersection and totaled his 'vette. Sad, sad day...

    Hey Guys,
First I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Denny Huffman...I just, this past week found this Corvette with help from a co-worker...I started looking for this Corvette back in '69, but with no success...
I have always wanted to tell someone the story, but didn't beleive that anyone outside our family would care...Still not sure if you guys would take the time to read it...
With growing up around my Dad's shop in Catonsville, Md. & living just down the road in Arbutus, there were many, many times that I either walked or rode my bike to THE GARAGE...
At any rate, I'm not going to make this too long for now, but...
My Dad, Bill Huffman, alot of people called him RED'S Huffman back inthe day...
Dad was the 2nd. owner of THE 57...Bob Mouat purchased THE 57 from A.D. Anderson Chevorlet in Baltimore, Md. It was always said that Bob bought THE 57 right off the showroom floor...I don't beleive that anyone, but A.D. Anderson knew that it was a COPO at the time or even if the terminology COPO was used back then...
If you guys don't mind I'm going to continue my story of THE 57, speaking of which, THE 57 was the ONLY name that THE 57 went by...Also, through the years of Dad building his own races, they were ALL raced under the number "57"...Someone in an earlier post mentioned the red paint job...That was done, again by Dad, Kenny & I...Dad wanted THE 57 to match the '59 El Camino that he towed THE 57 with...Speaking of towing, if you look under the frt. end, you will see (2) tabs, each that are welded to both lower control arms with a 3" x 1/2" bolt & nuts going through each set...their not factory...Dad, built an 8' long V shaped tow bar out of 1 1/2" chrome molly tubing, and on the El Camino end he welded a receiver to the rearend jackpot case...so if anyone out there has a '59 El Camino with a weird looking 3" long steel channel welded with a 5/8" hole drilled through the top & bottom...I'd be VERY interested in speaking to you too...
At any rate...Thanks for reading about the GREAT & LOVING memories of THE 57 as I know and remember them...

I'm going to keep going with my story, it really has been nice...
and also, some more facts about THE 57 that are not out to the world...

I may even spill the beans, as to how Dad was able to get Bob to set the track record at Marlboro Road Course in Maryland...What a weekend and very cool and interesting story...
Not only could that little 283 eat Cobras, but Ferraries too...just another GREAT DAY AT THE RACES...

p/s...My son Logan started & is still running Dad's # 57 in kart racing for the past 13 years...Before he could use THE 57 #, I told Logan that he would have to ask Dad for permission first, because Dad owned THE 57 # since the late '40's...
As of today we have kept THE 57 alive and in the Family and
    STILL WINNING RACES & CHAMPIONSHIPS...

    Thanks Guys,

    Denny Huffman...

Yep, ditto. If it's a nice Custom, then...maybe, but I feel the same way about Camaro's and any Mustang made after 1966.....even the nicest ones become so common at any show....Zzzzzzzzzzz.

Cool story Denny! That is one killer Vette. You should do an introduction post and tell us all who you are and how you found the Hamb. Enjoy it...

Here's our 'version' of what an early vette should look like. Car was painted back in the 60's. My dad almost bought the same car back in '58 - but was not impressed with the 265/3-speed - the previous owner & friend updated it in the early 60's with a '62 327/340 hourse/4-speed/posi [somewhere there is a '62 running around with a 265] and later with a later fuelie unit - the car goes like it a real vette should now...
