Spent a little time cruising the net looking for a new floor jack, now I'm really confused.Anybody got any tips on who makes a decent quality jack that'll raise up to maybe 26-27" ? Not looking for air operated,I think, and not interested in spending thousand$$$$..?
    Thanks

Dude, 26" or 27" is a huge amount of lift from a floor jack! Good luck finding a cheap one that will lift that high. Gene

i wouldnt,i know the one you are talking about because i bought one too, then i found out it is actually made by lincoln for snap on and costs about 275 from your local napa auto parts.actually found em cheaper than that online too.dont get me wrong the blue point one works great but save yerself some dough!in fact if you really shop around you will find half the stuff on the old snap on truck is probably made by lisle, whia and others wich can be found cheaper elsewhere.the blue point jack does not carry the same warranty as the "snap on" either.

thats because Blue Point = made overseas - its Snapon's "midtier" brand

When looking at floor jacks, you'll notice that some 3 ton jacks are puny and some are giant heavy SOB's. A lot of floor jacks are rated by what they will HOLD, not what they will LIFT.

So, if you jack up a puny "3 ton" jack, and set 3 tons down on it, it will hold it, but if you slide it under 3 tons and try to jack it up you won't have any luck.

This Snapon 3 ton jack is a heavy SOB, and will lift 3 tons, but it is almost $700...

where this Craftsman 3 ton is $60...

the blue point is made in china. that part sucks. but it is the best for under $300 that I have found. I will fit under drop axle cars without rollin them up on 2x4s. lifts higher. And is way better than h.f. ones. I have no time and the snap on man comes right to the door, so I have no problem giving him the $20 more. Shipping or gas runnin around would eat up the savings, In my mind anyway.

Thanks for all the info, this car is gonna be up and down a lot, plus it's sitting on roller stands with several inches of wood spacers added to get it up in the air. And now I need bigger spacers..It's a total PITA to raise it a little, block it,and do it again...Thought about rigging something to sit my 18" jack on to get more height, then had visions of it all crashing down.
Welding under the car,and I'm too old to see what I'm doing unless I can get positioned just right..

On the Craftsman sales website they have customer reviews.
You'll be shocked at how many fail.
Looks like the best bet is to buy used and put new seals in.
The more people figure this out, the harder it will be to find used equipment.

Zman, that is the exact same jack that I have. Bought it for $50 from a neighbor who wanted to sell out cheap rather than let his EX get any of it in a divorce settlement.

  24. I've got an old Walker as well. I need to get a seal kit for it though. leaks a bit

  28. I have a Sears one I bought in 1983 for $99. I dragged it to many nights of racing, countless hours in the shop too. The key is to keep it greased and reasonably clean and don't let the kids use it as a scooter. It still works like the day I bought it. It'll go 21" high.

Why not make up a riser to rest your existing jack on? I made one up of old oak pallet material that added 4" to the height.

I had one from Harbor Freight, that actually work flawlessly for years, and even came with a rebuild kit (never needed it). It had a few feet of travel or seemed to, but i lent it to a neighbor and he broke it... decided to move the van he had jacked up, with the jack still holding the van up? tweaker... anyways... I checked their site and they don't seem to offer that exact jack anymore but have one with like 23" lift. I know the quality is crap sometimes, but as long as it works, and you use jack stands...
