doesn't really matter who you know in the city trust me my wife works with the mayor, city manager, police chief and city attorney's for our city. all the officer's know my neighbor is a drunk and a few cards short of a full deck. after the first few calls the cops start to get annoyed with you for not having the sense to avoid the situation. neighbor called the cops on me 9 times in april for my truck being parked in my own driveway, truck being parked on my back driveway but sticking into the road a little (not enuff so a car couldn't pass)while i was working on my 59 ford only 10 feet away. meanwhile the city has leaned his property for $75000 for code violations and guess what. since he ignores code enforcement they wont come out and write him up anymore but everytime he calls the police they have to respond and it just depends on the luck of the draw whether the cop sides for me or him.next time put mufflers on first and avoid the aggravation. just my .02

If I was new in your neighborhood and you uncorked them ONCE and ran around...I wouldn't care (as long as the hours were respectable). But if you did this on a regular basis, I'd come over and have a talk with you first before I called the cops. Something tells me this isn't the first time you did this however (or something noisy or disrespectful)...I can't see anyone calling the cops for one minor disturbance like this. As far as your neighborhood rep and all...doen't mean squat when the newbies don't know who you are, or you woke up their newborn baby from a nap and now they won't go back to sleep (just a possible example). Nice '36 BTW.

true. Wanna put some dumps on the Yukon?

  7. Well actually the one set of neighbors (renters) two doors down are possible crack heads and their dads in prison for popping a dude in the head durring a botched home invasion, I dont think that the sleeping baby is the issue here. There is a reason for living outside of the curve as some of the older folks look to me and my neighbor to keep the punks in check. I'm not saying that I make noise all the time but in the early years on the block, I was known to get a little wild. This open header thing was a one shot deal just so my 16 year old son could hear what it sounded like. The pipes will go back on tomorrow most likely. It was just pimpy that one blast down the block could get the cops there that fast and when a gang banger beat-off fires a gun, it takes them a while to get there. Like I said , it was just a rant.

They are the same people that move in next to an airport that has been there for 50 years and start a petitiom to reduce the aircraft noise.

i can understand them being angry if it was night/early morning, but otherwise it's just people being lame-o's. I'm lucky enough to live on a dead end dirt road in the middle of nowhere, but I've had the displeasure of living in the 'burbs before and I have to say that I could never stand neighbor complaints. I never got all bent out of shape about anything they did, yet some people are so quick to call the cops you have to wonder if they're peeking through the blinds waiting for you to do something. It's ridiculous. I can't imagine calling the police because I hear a loud car in the middle of the day. Anyone who can should be rounded up, issued a prius, and shipped to Vermont.

p.s., I'd take your '36 over any Trailblazer ever made.

I thought this was This was the United States of America. Freedom! Some of you have been drinkin' the effn coolaid...... READ THE FOUNDING DOCUMENTS OF THIS COUNTRY! You are free to excersize your own free will. You are not free to enforce your will on your neighbor. You are free to move if you don't like the noise, you are not free to enforce your will that your neighbor be silent.
Remeber the old sayings "If you don't like it, leave, move, go away, f... off, ect.... some real truth to this.

NHRA sportsman cars run mufflers.....? yeah..... I run a car in Division 6, Super pro and Super Street. Everyone I know runs cone collector inserts or collector mufflers . Knocks the noise on my car down to 103.5db. No where near "muffled" I Start my car in the neighborhood very regularly and respectfully (between 9am and 9pm) never earlier or later, all legal like.
It did not sound by his story that this was real early or real late...

I'm sure your town has some sort of "quiet hours" noise regulation from X:XX pm to X:XXam

If you have any more trouble with the shit stirrer, just uncork and let her rip in the driveway right up to tha time limits on a regular basis and they will be begging for the times of OCCASSIONAL open pipe fun.....

A blower on top of a tunnel ram? WTF? I used to like some of the first "rat rods" I saw, now it seems they just weld shit on for the sake of welding shit on. I was at a show a couple of weeks ago and some of them didnt have floors in them.

a block party is where all the neighbors on the street get together and rope off the ends so no one can drive down and they have a shin dig. its mostly for the tykes. the whole head of the neighboprhood thing can mean different things. in this case mike is reffering to his status and how the neighbors view him as a sort of leader. but usually each block will have a leader and we battle for territory with oranges.:D

Life is too short to 'cope' with a neighborhood where I don't belong. It's THEM or ME. One thing is for sure, I can't get all of them to move.........The solution is obvious, to me anyhow. I'm happy with my lot, by choices that I have the power to make............................

This post is a huge contradiction and possibly the worst interpretation of the Bill of Rights I've ever read. As Americans, we have the right to persue our freedoms provided it doesn't interfere or inhibit someone else's freedom. You seem to think it's just fine to break basic vehicle laws because it's fun to you. After all you've earned the right to be a jackass because ( fill in dumbass excuse here). What about the neighbor who's idea of fun is to relax on a pleasant afternoon in his own home? Does it matter that he rents or owns as to whether or not the law applies to you? Are you above the law because you're a wonderful person? Laws are the laws and apply to everyone. You guys are the first ones to bitch when laws get passed that come down on your hobby, and are clueless as to how they came about. It's always someone elses fault, not yours. Thank God you guys don't live anywhere near me.

NO NO NO, just run the car as you like it. I have the same problem and have on many occasion been the go to guy in the neighborhood. I have a next door neighbor who moved in from San Diego. He's a rock climbing guy who loves the gentle sounds of nature. I built my T much to his dismay, in fact we had a pretty good stink eye fest going for a while. then when it ran I gave him a ride (this took a while as he wa still Bent). As I look over at him he's smiling and finally got it. For what it's worth its a Y-block straight into "A" torque tubes with Harley baffles that barely work. Go find out who it is and give 'em a ride. To all the other wet blankets on here my god you own hot rods! WTF if it doesn't sound good what's the point? Trick is to make it sound good. If it's running crappy and poppin' and crackin' then yes fix it but if it's a beautiful noise then let it rip at decent hours. Just my 2C

I run my open header coupe and all of my neighbors love it! I dont run it late, or let it sit in front of my house running for too long. I work nights, and people around me are ALWAYS loud durring the day. I dont get my panties in a bunch. When its like 3:30, im always tempted to be loud since most people dont care when Im sleeping! I always wonder what they would say! haha...

What areas is it "cool" (legal) to run open headers on the street? I've not heard of such a place, please explain.

I finished American Government and American History I last semester and although "we have the right to persue our freedoms provided it doesn't interfere or inhibit someone else's freedom." sounds nice, it's not in the Bill of Rights. Something to that effect may be in some other document but it's not very convincing unless you can tell us where. The closest thing that would fall under in the Bill of Rights is Amendment I "Freedom of Speech", which is protected (at least originally) under any circumstances by the bill of rights.

As far as more modern laws go, if no noise ordinances were in effect the only thing he did wrong was to take it into the street. Making noise on your own property (at least in the still free parts of the country.. haha) is still legal.

I've been pretty Lucky when I lived in town, no straight pipes just air compressor noise and usually quit by 9:30-10:00. Now we're on 2 1/2 acres and no complaints. The only noise I hear are the neighbors horses, jackkass, and chickens. And a occasional Harley blowing by. Too bad they couldn't talk to you insted of calling in the Cops.

Contradiction? "Interpreting" the constitiutution is half the problem. It was intended to be a literal document. "

"provided it doesn't interfere or inhibit someone else's freedom" Sorry, it doesn't say this anywhere. In my view this is a "jackasses" "interpretation" and the kind of thing f'ing up this country. In fact at least one current constitutional attorney has been quoted as saying roughly "One man's freedom is anothers prison if he chooses to let it be". I don't have his book handy as I have lent it to a friend, and so can't give the exact quote right now.

"Life Liberty and the persuit of happiness"
If you are truely interested in this part of American history and the intent of the documents, May I suggest you read some of the ancillary documents written by and between the authors of the Declaration, bill of rights and constitution. You will find that if you study all you can get your hands on and take it at face value my "interpritation" is VERY accurate. Most constitutional historians and lawers will tell you the current system is far from the original vision.
It's not my right, responsibility or obligation to persue anyone elses "persuit of happiness" only to obey the law in a prudent manner. If that makes me a "Jackass"....so be it!

If you'd Like step away from your own "JACKASS" statements for a moment and re-read the post, you'll see that I know my local noise laws and suggested that he also follow his local laws "to a T " if he continues to have trouble. Results may vary, but he'll make his point, LEGALLY!!!

It amazes me that people in a hobby like hot rods, custom cars, racing, ect. come from this point of view. It's the point of view that has shut down countless race tracks and given birth to asinine vehicle codes.

I've got issues with the guy accrossed the street who fires up his diesel truck every Saturday morning at 3:30 to go fishing. Have I EVER said a word.....NO!

I can see the whole noise thing/neighbors both ways. I got a neighbor across the street with a Model A truck with a hopped up SBC with headers and mufflers and short pipes. Still fairly loud. He never tunes it or drives it at late night. A nice guy, no one has a problem with him. He used to park his Mack truck and large boat trailer in his yard (he moves large boats as a sideline buisness), somebody complained about the large commercal vehicle in his yard (we think it was somebody that doesn't even live on our street). He had to start parking it somewhere else. How the hell could a clean looking truck and trailer in a guy's yard bother anybody?
We did have renters living behind us that played loud music at all hours, yelled, and had boom cars playing rap music arriving and going at late night. I called the cops on them regularly. The police told me to keep calling, as after so many calls the landlord would start to get fined. The house was sold, and a regular family lives there now. Those renters were interfearing with my right to enjoy my own back yard and get a good nights sleep.
Every summer we have a huge summer party in our back yard, and to avoid any problems, we invite all the neighbors. Some don't attend, but know about it, and do not complain. It is always over at about 11-midnight anyways.
I guess it's about knowing your neighbors, and having respect for them, and hopefully they respecting you.
