Funny how I was watching this and sort of paying attention to the verbage....and noted not a single 4 letter word.....I need to work on that......
The beer can zoomie covers were cl***ic indeed... And Ryan- Check the 'Basterds' movie if you get a chance, but be prepared to squirm during a few scenes...
I'd seen that movie listed in Hot Rod Nostalgia's catalog for years, but I had not ordered it because a lot of times the old film quality is lacking. After watching this clip I know I was wrong and need to order it. Ryan, You should see if Hot Rod Nostalgia is interested in being an Alliance Member. I've been ordering from them since the early '90s and they are always a pleasure to do business with. They put out a great catalog that always includes several great articles on historic drag cars and racers.
For those in the Los Angeles area, Autobooks-Aerobooks in Burbank may have a copy. It looks as if they are building a new website and the content is limited. A few years ago, my brother was down visiting from Oregon and we watched the film the night before he was to drive back. I gave him my copy when he left. He said all he could think about during that long drive was the great lines from the film. He watched it again as soon as he got home. He said he had a vision of himself as an old invalid in a nursing home, drooling on himself and *****in' to the nurses to "Put on my movie!" I agree that it's worth the search to find a copy. Brian
Wow, and I just made a deal to trade my FED for a 55 Chevy g***er. Now I am not sure if that is a good thing or bad. I will have to find a copy of that one.
So did I. Saturday is backyard movie night at the Hog Mountain Garage. Too bad it won't arrive in time. I think we're stuck with Bikini Beach.
I love that movie. I got it last year. A full year after I started messing with my digger. If I had seen it before I got my dragster, I would have felt I was copying them. I had beer can zoomie covers too, a ****y clutch board, just everything. Well except 7 second time slips. Im trying. damn. Did I say i love that movie.
Feenominal stuff. I miss the old days of drag racing. The gr*** roots of it all. That would be a hell of a ride at Dizzyland. Crash n burn and change yer shorts. Drag racing, Coors and Canned heat. You can't get much more 'Murican than that.
I saw this movie on PBS (Channel 13) as a very young teenager back in the very early 1970s. I never knew what it was called until not too long ago. It'd be great to see it again after all these years! Pete
One of my all time favorites! Lots of heroes in that movie.. John Mulligan (RIP) Bob Brooks, Gene Adams, the list could go on forever! Lots of guys that are in that movie helped shape drag racing into what it is today. Jimmy White P.s. I think my favorite lines is "GET ME OUT OF HERE PAL!"
A little music trivia: In 1929 Tommy Johnson recorded "Canned Heat Blues", about an alcoholic who has desperately turned to drinking Sterno. The band Canned Heat later took its name from this song. Sterno has long been mixed with water and other liquids to produce a drink called "canned heat", "squeeze" or "pink lady". The product is squeezed through a rag to extract the alcohol while straining out the methanol. These alcoholic beverages, primarily used in poorer communities, have been linked to numerous deaths from methanol poisoning.
Brian B*** poped that into his VCR at the shop about 4 years ago.., I told him I had to borrow it cause I was glued to the tv.. its one of the best Drag movies I have ever seen its so well done,,, and its always been a big influence on me as a film maker..I've seen it about a 100 times easy..
I love the old movies like on any sunday they always have this really serious narrator. Makes me think something serious is goin ons.
I have had a copy of that movie for quite awhile and got it though my wife's friend who knows the director. I remember telling Evil about it and we both agreed that it was one of the all time best drag movies of all time. I told evil that the mad scientist at his laboratory needed to take this movie and few other's that are out there and make a move comp much like a cd music comp.
ROLEIFLEX: Much gr*** for the kind words about our little "labor of love," www.HotRodNostalgia.com. It took us YEARS of pleading to persuade "Seven Second ..." cinematographer Les Blank to upgrade from VHS to DVD. Thanks to this review and clip and response from HAMB members, the disc really took off this month. We just restocked our shelves. Direct link to this aisle of the e-store is http://hotrodnostalgia.com/Store/Video/miscracevid01.html. Also seen on this page all three volumes of the DVD trilogy, "Lions: The Greatest Drag Strip" a series that is equally popular with fans of LADS. Thanks to all, DAVE WALLACE JR.
