My '54 Chev has a camaro subframe. The guy that I got the car from put a 307 sbc in it. He left one side of one of the motor mount brackets "unwelded" so it could flex???? Doing a motor swap, I now realize why. The brackets are too far apart for a sbc. He needed the flex so he could pry it up to line up the holes on the mount. After much research I have discovered that he used mix/max camaro motor mounts and brackets. So, I need to cut them out and relocate them at the very least. My question is this: should I simple cut the brackets out, bolt them to the mounts on the block, drop the block in and position it where I need it, tack the brackets in place, unbolt the mounts and pull the motor, then weld in the brackets? Or am I better off getting a completely different set of aftermarket motor mounts and starting from scratch? Not sure which direction to head here. What problems do I need to be aware of to avoid making stupid mistakes as far as measurements and alignment go? Thanks!

Not knowing what mounts he used, I would go buy a new set. You can buy the oem stuff and just built your own mounts outta some small 1/8" dom tube and 3/16" plate using the method you were talking about

I think you're on the right track with the locate and weld method.

I would 86 the old stuff and buy or make some of your own. That way you know it's done right.
