No way in hell it's the buddies fault. Everyone has to be responsible for their own decisions. Because his buddy "talked him outta it" means travj31 KNEW it was a great deal but the buddy made some kind "argument" as to WHY travj31 shouldn't buy it. Travj31 made the decision not to buy, buddy didn't stick a gun to his head to make him walk away.
So broke was/is the real issue. Makes no differance how great the deal is you either have the money or you don't. Been there before. Not fun but it's life. LOTS of others could learn from this...... to have alittle stash put away for a rainy day is always a good idea. Never know when the awesome "barn find" might show up.
to be completely honest, i was going to try and flip the car and make a little loot. i had no idea the car was worth that much money in the condition it was in or it would have been mine. i was thinking it to be worth maybe around 3000 but wasn't sure how fast it would sell with that kind of asking price in today's economy and i couldn't afford to be without a grand for a couple months or so... obviosuly i wouldn't have had any trouble selling that car for that kind of money. you live and you learn i guess...
Welcome to club! Your first major car non-purchase mistake, probably not your last. Been there done that will probably do it again!Anybody that has done this stuff for awhile will always have at least one shoulda coulda woulda! That's what bench racing is for.
I razzed you but really don't sweat it. I can't even recall all the things I had to p*** up because I simply didn't have the money. There were things I knew were good buys but I simply did not have the money. The absolutely cherry 56 Chevy in 1977 for $1500. The 440 6 pack Challenger for 2K. The 1968 Charger for $200. The XKE for $2500. The 427 1969 Camaro (not numbers matching in my defense) for $800. The $1500 69 z/28. The list goes on forever about cars I didn't even ask about because I was broke. I did get the 67 GTO convert for $1100 though. $50 a month payments.
Well there ya go, you'd have only made $5k, no big deal. Now forget about it and move on, ----oh, and if a 32 3 window comes along for $1,400, call me, they're pretty much worthless, but I'm probably the only guy in the world who'd like to own one.
Hey, keep us updated. Take a drive down that road and see if it's still there in a weeks time. A ****ty chopped 50 Chev pickup right down my road sold on eBay 6 times(!) for over $3,000 every time and it never left the spot it was parked in. It just got ****tier with every month that p***ed. Just because it "Sells" on eBay doesn't mean it actually got sold. You just might get it yet!
