I no longer have the lower mount for my hood springs since the car/cowl/firewall have been so modified. I fabbed up some new lower mounts/brackets, but I don't know how far I should attach them from the hinge/upper hook, and I don't feel like taking the springs on and off 50 thousand times to experiment. Can anyone with a similar ride measure the distance between the 2 hooks (upper hinge and lower mount) with the hood OPEN and tell me what measurement you get please? Thank you.

My '49 - which uses the same hood, measures 15" from the the lower hole to the notch in the upper arm when the arm is straight up (the maximum distance that the two mounting points can be apart)

Thanks Dave. Finally managed to get those stinkin' springs back on. NOT FUN!! I placed them at 15" as you and others suggested, but unfortunately, the hood doesn't stay open. It closes real slowly. Maybe the springs are tired and needed to be stretched even further. Don't know... Guess my next post will be for retractable hood props... Thanks anyway.

if you go to www.chevytalk.com one of the members made a simple tool to remove and replace those hood springs. i do believe they even made a video of the operation check it out.
