Ah, your the guy that has the sharp 1937 Chevy I was wanting to get a pic of, but with all the people around I couldn't get it. Bring that coupe on down to Hanson Cruise In October 3rd, in the downtown area of hanson.
Cool to see this '55, which is a real survivor, as you'll note from the pics below from the old Sturgis, KY drag strip. Thanks for posting.
that 55 was local to me for years. a guy named jim romans owned and built it years ago. jim died in the early 90's. they had a big auction to sell all his cars and parts. a local car collector bought the car and had it for years. he sold it a few years ago to a guy from nashville (tn). i think. thanks for posting those sturgis drags pics. i've never seen any. we had a car show down there about 5 years ago. tried to get them to let us run some cars down the old drag strip. the issurance company had a stroke and wouldn't let it happen. sturgis was a real deal old abandoned air strip.
Also, that 55 had "american graffiti" on the rear quarters for ever. the car was know as the "american graffiti car" around here. again, very cool to see it in action. i don't know who the guys are standing/ working on the car are. but, i can find out.
Hey Goob! thanks for the updates, Dave Durham from White Plains,Ky has owned the 55 for several yrs . and has done a outstanding job of keeping the car as is. Never knew Sturgis airport was ever abandoned. By the way Goob, Charlie Evans says hello!!
Tell Charlie "Goober says hey" and ask if he knows the Kentucky Colonels is being auctioned up this way October 4 by Mecum at Pheasant Run P.S. The 12 spokes make it kind of a Heath/Spivey hybrid. For me, the original star spokes were the best looking.
Nice Pictures, I went to the cruise in last night, But didnt get to take our car, its still in the Shop. Thanks for posting about the Downtown Hason Cruise In on Oct. 3rd, I wrote down the info last night, but lost the paper when we went to the bridge to watch the cars leave downtown.
Oh, I will have more info on the Hanson cruise in, this will be my last time hosting it, unless some major things change. Also that 55, is now owned by a guy from the Madisonville, ky area. Glad to see the history about it.
Yeah being a studebaker fan myself I was really surprised with the turn out for a local event. Also should have bee another studebaker truck there but for some reason he brought his other GM car there.
