I bought this little jewel at a local swap meet for a gas pedal in my latest hot rod. Beauty, eh? I was thinkin of you when I scored it.....
I'm also a closet drummer...here's my set. Mrs Rocky got 'em for me last year and I beat on 'em when I get stressed.....great therapy!
I have a set of Mapex. I haven't got to play since I got bumped off of my job with weekends off. Now I have ****py days off and can't play every weekend like I did. Slaving for the man ****s!
Wow I never thought of that.My father has a **** load of those,"he`s a vintage drum dealer". Cool idea!
Cool score Rocky! I've had a few of those in my day. wingnuts sent me one a few months ago. I have the same pedal in the roadster with the "Epic" heel pad. One of these days I need to switch it out for the Krupa model. They work great as go pedals and look so cool. I've seen a couple of guys use Ludwig "Speed King" pedals for the gas. Yep, Krupa was the king. I play a set of 1939 Radio Kings and 1940 Ludwigs. Had some 49 Leedys at one time but sold em to finace the Hot Rod.
Big Sid Catlett Davey Tough Earl Palmer Ray Bauduc Louie Bellson Cozy Cole Buddy Harmon Mel Lewis Ray Mckinley Buddy Rich Chick Webb I could go on and on..........
Buddy Rich played at the college I went to, a "few" years ago. He was just recovering from a heart attack, but you couldn't tell by his playing. He would start of each song and the rest of the band had to figure out what song he was playing in like the first 5 beats!! it was really amazing to see. Cool pedal idea...
[ QUOTE ] Buddy Harmon? You stumped me. [ QUOTE ] "Let There Be Drums"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pigpen [/ QUOTE ] Hey pigpen, Sandy Nelson, right ?
Just a funny drummer story. Back in the 80's I worked for a while for a guy named Don Dixon. Maybe you remember his "Praying Mantis" video on MTV. Well his drummer for a tour or two was Denny Fongheiser He was a pretty popular studio drummer. Well late at night on the tour bus we would talk about these late night sessions he kept doing when he was home in LA. he would get the call at like 3am and be offered triple rate to come do the sessions. Well I kept trying to get out of him who it was, which time he did them. I would bring up the big metal acts of the day and he would spout off "I can neither confirm or deny that I played on that album" Through the course of the whole thing I think I got that response for whatever the latest party-metal act was. I came to believe that he played on G-n-R Appe***e for Destruction as well as probably a few of plowboy's favorites.....
Man, this has turned into a killer thread. Thank's Rocky. And all those tidbit's in the music industry.
...Maybe not quite as old school, but I used to dig Ed Shaughnessy on the Carson show. ...anybody remember the Buddy Rich/Desi Arnaz Jr. drum off?? Episode Number: 57 ***le: Lucy and the Drum Contest Original Airing Date: October 5, 1970 Guest Stars : Buddy Rich Plot Summary: Lucy manages to con Buddy Rich into giving Craig private drumming lessons. That and seeing Ted Nugent late at night on an airing of "Cal Jam 2" made me want to rock in a bad way! Damn, I feel old. G.
Ric. I remember a Gene Krupa album that was out in '63 called "Let There be Drums" although I could be wrong. Our drummer (John Parr, Rhythm Rockers, Antelope Valley, Ca.) used to practice to it and tried to master every beat. pigpen Still playin' the blues and **** kickin' too; both kinds.

[/ QUOTE ] I've got another Krupa model and another 2 Epics...! I've heard that Gene Krupa "busted" so many of those pedals and complained about them that Singerland discontinued that design...! I would like to know "The rest of the story"...!
Pigpen, you're not far off. It was Sandy Nelson who played "Let There Be Drums", sounding very much like Krupa. I had a 45rpm of that recording that I wore out when I was a kid.
[ QUOTE ] Wingnutz...I'll do my best to bust this pedal too.. [/ QUOTE ] Only if you're as fast as Gene Krupa... ! Sounds like you're going to drive it like a "Midget racer" on a rutty dirt track...! Mark
