    You been spying on me?

I swear we are going through the same damn thing right now.

I'm flushing that pig and running the water, then will go with the yellow and hopefully it will get us by long enough to trade it in.

She wants a Diesel Jetta, those damn things get 46-48 MPG.

Which Scion is that? The rolling shoebox or slightly rounder one?

Oh yeah, she has the upside-down problem too. Rolled over a debt from the damn Mustang her X bought.

    Fun fun fun!
The xb is the Ice-cream truck looking one.
I liked it, fun to drive. Not much power of course but plenty of get up for that mini four banger.
I was really impressed by the suspension. The thing takes speed bumbs like a mud crawler! (we did'nt buy the first one we test drove. [IMG]).
The other thing I liked was how much head and leg room the front has. You can really streach out.

The down sides are the same with most new cars.
Belts and Alt are impossible to get at with out removing the engine mounts.

  2. Hey krupa..., that's one way of getting rid of that "Pesky" problem... [IMG]!

Hope you were able to get something on the trade-in...! [IMG]

    Have fun in Finland...!

From what I've seen over the last 20 years of auto service if you don't ever put green in orange the orange is OK,but alot of oil change shops top off your cooling system with what ever they have handy so they can add $1.00 to your bill.Family Dollar has green antifreeze for $6.00.

I run a '95 Pete with a 3406 Cat engine...I had the orange long-life coolant in the truck but lost a hose and had to topoff with green stuff. I thought I would have to drain and refill the whole system since i mixed the different stuff but two Pete dealers and my own mechanic told me the only real difference in standard and long-life coolants is the long-life is made with distilled water which has no contaminents hence it will last longer than standard coolant that COULD be mixed with hard water...dunno if it's true..I report..you decide!

Boys, boys boys.................Doesn't matter WHICH coolant you use,if you don't change it every so often, the shit WILL eat your engines up. THINK about something for a minute.... Your Coolant is in contact with, aluminum, copper, lead, cast iron, steel, stainless steel, and God only knows what other metals. Throw a few thousand heat cycles in there and you have the PERFECT makings for a BATTERY. As in ACID. Think I'm shitting you? TRY this sometime. Flush your engine/radiator and refill it with the recommended mix of your favorite coolant. Now,drive your car for a couple of months, just like you normally would. Some morning, while you are checking your oil, grab your voltmeter, plug the ground lead onto the ground side of your battery, and take the positive lead and stick into the coolant in your radiator,NOT touching anything metal,JUST THE COOLANT. Betcha a dollar to a doughnut you will get a voltage reading...........It's called electrolosis.
THAT is what eats your shit up.

Dex-Cool is the orange shit that GM has been putting in all of their new cars. Its supposed to last 150,000 miles or 5 years. There have been many complaints of it turning to MUD inside cooling systems. It also EATS things up....gaskets, waterpumps, freeze plugs, etc etc.....(according to reports)

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason that GM heater cores and the like get plugged up with "mud" is because of the clay tablets they use in the coolant system. Flush all that crap out and Dex-Cool works just fine. The late-model Impala SS/Caprice guys (1994-96) have dealt with this problem quite often, probably more so than the other models because of the poor design of the heater core in the B-Body

Your right, so why tell people you don't need to fush Dexcool for 150,000 miles?

We bought the blazer used at 60,000 and I'm sure it had never been changed untill I did it 2,000 miles after the Mrs. got it.

I've seen crudy coolant before but I've never seen anything like Dexcool when it goes bad.

I'm sure it's ok if you flush it once a year just like the old stuff but no soccer moms are going to do it.

I know I'll never buy a used post 96 GM with out checking out the cooling system top to bottom.

  11. I agree with Krupa...!

Last week I was helping a friend flush his plugged cooling system on his 98' Jimmy and now his core is leaking and his waterpump is acting up. [IMG]

I showed him this post and he's freaking out because of the cost of replacing the core as well as other hard to reach parts...! [IMG]

I've owned over 180 cars so far and some of them had the same antifreeze in them for over 30 years and they worked fine.

Dexcool is B.S. and the engineers at G.M. should be charged for the damage and fired...!!! [IMG]

It's exactly like it sounds. Supposedly they're put into help seal any minute leaks that may be present. Unforunately, they like to plug up your heater core and whatever else as well, and you can't ever seem to the crap fully flushed out.

You mean they put stopleak in from the factory? I'm sure they did it to reduce warrenty claims on leaks, but what has it done for the number of plugged up system claims? 'Course I suppose by the time it is plugged, it's out of warrenty. This is right up there with the black engine blocks.
