I recently came acrossed a work bench/station with a counter and cabinets that has very stock appearing pontiac logo's on it. Alegedly it was put in the local pontaic dealership in 1958 and is supposed to actually be made or licensed by pontiac. I didn't get any pics yet. Has anyone heard of or seen such a thing? Its big too. probably the better part of 15 ft long? Any one have pics of one also?

    Thanks
    Adam

If you can get it, take it. Old dealerships always had equipment offered from the "Car Maker" It was part of the dealership plan. It started as car makers wanted their dealerships to be uniform and also as a way to make more money. they would license manufactures to build benches, wrenchs, jacks, all kind of things to offer to thier dealers. Then they would lease these items to them to make sure they could have the best and the newest items. They still do this today, Ford and the Rotunda program is still one of the biggest.

Normally those benches or cabinets where well made and where a baked finish like most major house appliances, and normally white. Other tool companys used the same decco design in their cabinets, esp alignment equip. Grab it or send me the info.

I cant find pictures of one anywhere pontiac or otherwise. Any Idea what to search for or maybe where to find some references.

I think I will pick it up. Its for a VERY resonable price. Needs completely redone, but its still in very restorable condition.

Isn't it funny, how you start with cars and then this whole thing envelops your life and you'll restore damn near anything old. Looking for an old fridge as we speak actually to go in the same shop as the cabinet will go in. Such an addiction.

  4. Tell your wife you're planning to redo the kitchen and see what happens next :)

I'd grab something like that, too -

She's actually 100% cool with me doing whatever I want with old ****. Way she figures is if I'm in the garage working I'm not out screwin around or getting drunk or anything. But I'm the kind of guy that would step around a model to get a better look at the car she was standing next to. So it works out for both of us. As long as I don't ***** about a 100 pairs of shoes and sungl***es it flows well.

The worst part of the cabinet is that it will take up a full size car trailer.

  6. The upside is the cabinet is big enough for your girlfriend to live in and you wife will be none-the-wiser!:D

Pontiac had White enameled shop fixtures with the Indian head and Pontiac Embossed in them and trimmed in red I worked 3 years for a Pontiac dealer that still had all the old white fixtures in one section of the shop everything was white even the oil drain cans with the tall funnels for under a lift. There was a unit that sat between bays that had drums of oil ,trans fluid ,axle lube etc .inside with a pump nozzle like a gas hose for each on a retractor I had to keep all that clean and even sometimes waxed!but I think I got to work in the best part of the shop!
