  1. Geezzzz, even back then they couldn't get the info correct on things. They call Watson's bike a Triumph. Looks like a 45" Harley to me.

  13. The story I heard was that a lot of the kids that were in the Disney character costumes had hot rods and Kustoms... they got into an argument over Minnie Mouse... and there was a RUMBLE! The kids lost their jobs, and Walt said "no more HOODLUM car shows at Disneyland!!!"

  14. Thanks Q . That poster was always good for a laugh from people that had never seen it. I finally had to take it down once I had Grandkids. It was just to much to explane. Think I'll put it back up now.

That was a great parking lot show.

I wonder why it was only covered by the East Coast magazine? Peterson didn't hear about it?? How does that happen in their backyard? Notice the pre-bubbletop X-Sonic.

I was thinkind the same thing-especially with a Barris car there. Of course if someone asks Barris about the show he'll probably exclaim that the show was his idea.

Perhaps the Disney folks asked that it not be covered, for obvious reasons...

It's not signed, but I'm pretty sure that's drawn by Wally Wood- One of the greatest comic book artists of all time. He did a lot of work for Mad magazine and other EC comics publications like Weird Science and Tales from the Crypt in the fifties. Around the same time this poster was drawn he was doing his own fanzines and later ended up doing soft **** comics.

    committed suicide in 1981.

anyway, back to the regularly scheduled programming...

An EAST COAST Magazine covered the event, that may have been a first! The HCCA supplied a lot of Br*** Era cars to Disney for period movies, Ward Kimbal was a Disney staff member and had a regular page in the newsletter. There may be some info on the meet in the Horseless Carriage Gazzett from that time.

Just found this thread...so.........put in a call to Uncle Ray (Anderegg) (uncle to my wife) and waiting to hear back from him for any info on this topic, as well gonna pic his brain on the roadster. We visited him while he was in town in Merced in the 90s during one of the car shows and he had the red roadster with him. Took some pics of the 57 Hot Rod Mag with the car.

Uncle Ray Anderegg didnt recall going to that show, said the first time he'd been there was with his kids. But did tell me that the photo shoot for Hot Rod Mag in '57 was done at a car show at a big park in L.A. (he couldnt remember which park). He and his younger brother Walt had towed the roadster down there behind a '54 Olds. P.S. a tribute car has been started by me to look like the "55-57 yellow version, very stoked about the project!

Ok so I know this thread was started a long time ago but I just found it today.. I was with my grandpa over the weekend and it's the first time I've seen him since I was 15 years old on his farm.

Anyways, we were talking about 50's music and vinyl records and stuff and while we were on that topic he mentioned that he was the only person to ever host a car show at Disneyland in 1959. He told me I can look it up if I didn't believe him and that's how I found this thread.

I asked him what happened and apparently Disneyland paid him for the show, I can't remember how much exactly he said they paid him but for the 50s it was a lot. What he decided to do was to split the money evenly with everyone and leave the car show in the hands of his friends and employees to take over. He said after he left, they all decided take their share of the money and throw one really huge party and blew it all.

As for the burn outs and drinking in the parking lot I doubt it, but I'm going to be seeing him again on new years so, I'll ask and see what he says.

Maybe he has some articles and stuff I can take pictures of to shed some more light on this topic :)

First off, thank you so much Lurker Mick for posting those pictures from the magazine! I was able to find that issue for my grandpa who had been hunting down that magazine for years. He said he was told the car show would be in a magazine but never knew which one, so all these years he's been searching antique stores, garage sales, etc. and finally he has it and was so glad when I gave it to him!

After talking to my grandpa and grandma I found out some interesting stuff but I'll try to make long story short.

So my grandpa was the one who started up the car club (Road Lords). He was really good friends with a police officer back then who suggested that he hold a car show at Disneyland. My grandpa said he wasn't really too sure about doing it until he said the police officer took him down there and marched in the office and said the police officer knew all the right stuff to say and did all the smooth talking.

I asked him about the rumors of people drinking, doing burnouts, corvettes etc. and he said not at all. The police officer that suggested the car show at Disneyland had his name backing it so it was heavily locked down with police officers.

He said it was a huge turnout and success, supposedly back then you only needed about a 100 cars to do a good car show but he said it was well over 500.

My grandma also told me that my great grandfather also had a role in this. I guess he owned a hotel right by Disneyland that had a picture of a bear on it or something like that.. idk if it's still there or what it was called, she said she thinks it was called the bear cottage or something. Anyways, I guess since he had a hotel right there he was also able to pull some strings. She also said she had lots of photos from the show but she doesn't know where she put them. Hope she finds them!

Alas the 10 grand they were given for the show was supposed to be the start-up money for the next years car show but after my grandpa left they took the money and blew it all on a huge celebration party of some sort..

I'll try to see what else I can dig up, hopefully next time I'll have some photos or pictures to upload :)

  30. Old thread, I know, but the Stanley blew up at Knotts Berry Farm. The owner had a small propane tank, Mickey Moused in the rear seat to fire the burner. He was warned by his friends that they could smell gas, but he was, by some reports, an arrogant know it all and fired it up anyway. The car is still around, he isn't.
