Dont know if any of you guys have noticed the new wheels out by cragar... Im rather sure they arent "traditional" but they have a classic look about them. Wondering if perhaps they are copies.. buy outs.. or whatever of another old vintage wheel. a new version of this wheel. its got the gray center with the old style cap.. I think that these are pretty good looking wheels.. and for the price.. I might be a taker. Ive seen the street pro chromes in person and I like them... but thought they might be too much.. the gray version may be what Ive been looking for.. but I like the last wheel style in gray as well.
If we're going to play that game LSGUN: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347516 LOL, Good looking wheels. But I backed out and went with 200s.
I like them. Certainly better than all that huge billet crap people run on their "street rods" nowdays.
I'm trying to order a set of the gray center 500's for my Mercury wagon, but no one can seem to get their hands on a set yet. Why the hell is Cragar spending all that dough on magazine ads if they can deliver??
Lol thanks lsgun... you guys must have photographic memory. Yeah, I havent seen some of the wheels out for purchase yet... but a few are for sale from online vendors .. I think waynes wheels or something like that has most of these on their page.
those first two wheels i remember as those chrome deals that had a wire "basket" that fit over them. seems they never stayed on or something as a whole lot of cars in the 80's had them with the tall center cap thing still there but the basket gone. never seen them in painted steel until now. the last ones remind me of those Cragar's that early Shelby GT350'S had on them. Dave
I don't hate them, but just like the two earlier threads state, they do not offer any skinnys (like 4-5"). I wonder if that is a warranty or liability thing.
I think the problem here is projected low volume of sales for the skinny's as well as the wides. Take note of how few 3 1/2" and 4" wheels you see. Granted, some went into the scrap bin, but if there were more sold, you'd see more available in the used wheel aftermarket. 6" and 7" seem to be the most common size for used mags of any type. In twenty years of keeping my eyes open for 3 1/2" or preferably 4" slot mags, I found one. A hundred bucks about 2002 and there were times I thought I should have bought it. Good thing I didn't, never seen another. As for the wides, I kept my eyes open for those too. Started to look in earnest about 2001 and found a pair about 2003. Again, slots and I bought those. One more pair found about a year ago, but they're on a pal's car. Just gotta find out what he wants to trade for them, they're too wide for his fat fendered coupe. Just cuz you have a pair or full set of wheels that you like, you ain't in the clear yet. It'll pay to keep an eye out for one or a pair. I thought Sweetie had bent one of my bought new in 85, 10" x 15" a while back when she backed into the roadster. I was glad to have a couple for spares if needed. The dial indicator showed the wheel wasn't bent so that was a good thing. I know, we started out talking about Cragars. It won't be long until you can only find them in the used market, so you better take advantage while you can.
From Cragar Webite: *New* 69 Series "Delux" 35 Types of Wheels for this Model. Rim Size Range: 15x5 to 15x14 Bolt Pattern Range: 5x4.5 to 6x5.5 Jeff
Yuppers, those look exactly the old wheels that had the wire baskets but without the chrome on them. Probably the results of one of those "hey what if". things during a Coffee break at Crager. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Thats exctly what i was thinking when i first saw them..... but some of the aluminum wheels they offer arent bad lookin.
The "slots" look to have a steel rim? Other than that they look like a loose copy of an E-T, which was in turn a loose Halibrand "copy".
Now, if we could just get them to repop some of their vintage blower stuff and other cool speed parts, we'd be talking something serious to get exited about.
Ive been looking for these online... Ive found that newstalgia sells them.. http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/cragar_wheels.asp Im particularly interested in the street pro with the grey centers.. however they dont supply them with the 5x5.5 bolt center... either chrome or grey. Summit sells them in chrome with that bolt pattern.. so Im assuming that they are available... they just dont stock them. Im even dancing around the option of using a 17... over the 15.. just to fill the wheel wells up... since my f100 isnt lowered. I plan on dropping in 3inch drop beams at some point in its life.
OK....., I'm getting a little freaked out. I'm desperately trying to get my hands on a set of the new Eliminator 500's, and NO ONE I have talked to has received any yet, and they say they must be special ordered. Special order? A set of basic 15"x7" wheels must be special ordered? Really? Could it possibly be that Cragar is getting ready to go teats-up, a-la Crane Cams? I hope the hell not, as Jegs already has my money.
See, I remember that alot too. Always seemed like it was on those giant late 70's tbirds and merc. marquis....
