Any HAMBers use the discounted collector car insurance ??? Can you recommend one??? I am considering making a switch to one of these companies, but am not sure if I trust them. I would like to find an insurer that will actually pay a claim, not just issue an insurance card for proof of insurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob
do a search.there are MANY threads on this....use the word GRUNDY as the search point that should help
Bob, these companies all pay their claims. I do work for Grundy, Hagerty, Infinity and I just picked up the business for American Modern. As this time of year is rather slow in FL, I can't comment on A/M yet. But I have worked with the other 3 long enough to tell you you'll be taken car of. Pricing is similar for all three, but each may have a little quirk that may effect you. I will say all require the vehicle to have secure storage. This means a locked garage, storage unit, etc. These policies are also not intended as a daily driver policy. Infinity has had a mileage limit in the past, but I was advised the limits may be discontinued. If you are not sure what the car is worth, I would suggest getting an appraisal on the car. You wouldn't believe how many cars I run across that are under insured. This is just a suggestion. Along with checking price, I'd also talk to an agent regarding your car and the coverage you want. I know 'Becky form Grundy' is a regular on this forum and should be able to answer more of your questions. Tom Sterling Appraisal Service
I have heard good things about Hagerty and Grundy. I have Hagerty, there customer service is good but I've never had to make a claim. (Knock on wood!)
I use Geico.... Cheap. they will ask how many a year yer driven stuff like that. but pretty cheap. I'm 41 now so even cheaper
I'll never in Hell spend a dime with Geico. Reason? They like to give radar and laser equipment to small towns so they can set up speed traps. I know this to be true because they have given these units to the cops here in my hometown. They claim it's for promoting safe driving, but when you get a speeding ticket these days, not only does the govt. agency involved get your money, it goes on your driving record. Guess who gets LOTS more money from you then than the fine was to begin with? The Fucking Insurance Company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave
Unless I'm wrong, GEICO is Stated Value as opposed to Agreed Value. What you have it insured for may not be what you get when it's time to make a claim.
Have have had Grundy for 5 years now. Had a $7500 claim 2 years ago, payed off like a slot machine. No ???? asked.
And, if you get in an accident or get a ticket, and/or GEICO's little lizard finds out you have a radar or laser detector, they will IMMEDIATELY cancel you!
I have Continental Western on the '51. They really were great to work with when I got T-Boned with it a couple of years ago. Wrote the check for exactly what I wanted and didn't bat an eye.
Try Robbin at midwest classic insurance, he handles my Cobra as well as the Mustang Fastback, and he is a car guy so that helps. They are in Missouri I believe. Robbin is a good dude. Ryan www.midwestclassicins.com 1-217-438-6235 (Office) 1-888-271-4000 (Office Toll Free)
I had Grundy Worldwide a year ago, paid me off in 7 days when we totaled our 40. $27,000 Took care of most of our medical. Highly recommed them.
actually pay a claim? If you mean a "fire, theft, vandalism, collision" claim - most of them do. If you mean a "multiple wrongful death, you hit a schoolbus full of nuns, the award against you is $10,000,000, see you in bankruptcy court" claim - not so much.
Depends on the coverage YOU bought. The minimum liability coverage in the State of Florida is $10K. If you buy the minimum coverage and you feel naked, shame on you. Michigan requires $1M minimum property protection coverage. Different states have different requirements. YOU and your agent need to decide what you need for coverage over and above the value of the car. YOU have to decide how naked you want to drive when it comes to liability.
In what way? You brought up liability. They will pay up to the limits of your liability coverage. Again, how naked are you willing to drive? As for wrongful death, and wiping out a schoolbus full of nuns, I don't get it. $10M on a simple accident? I've never heard of it happening. Now if you drive without insurance, a drivers license with 5 DUI convictions, you are completely on your own.
You were lucky. I had to take those fucking bastards to the State Insurance Commission to get them to pay anything close to the value of a vehicle I lost in a tornado. Fuck USAA. Hard.
