So... What didja do this weekend?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Just Gary, Oct 23, 2004.

  1. I dropped my freshly painted SBC back into it's home. Spent the rest of the evening polishing the aluminum, listening to Muddy Waters & rehydrating with MGD.

BTW, I'm a recently converted true believer in "engine lift plates". This one worked great. Don't know how it'd work with dual quads or 3 deuces, though. [IMG]

Painted the inner fenders on my completly untraditional 1990 soon-to-be daily driver one-ton Cummins powered Dodge pickup with 1977 sheetmetal. Understand....?

Appropriate content: Waited for the delivery of my model A 5 window to start my drag car project. Should arrive tomorrow....it's only across town. [IMG]

Trimmed the trees and bushes in the yard, stacked the brush, and dismounted 50 junk tires to save the wheels.

Started the morning by responding to a car wreck and cribbing the car up so it didn't roll over on the ambulance crew while removing the patient. This afternoon I helped extricate a lady from an overturned SUV. I've only got 9 hours and 15 minutes to go this shift [IMG]

well its only saturday and tomorrow is looking promising

so friday evening i poured some gas in the 46 and got it to run again...sounds like it might need the timing adjusted...then i said screw it this flathead makes me quivver...i gotta get the roadster running...so i put on a decent carb hooked up a few wires...pump sucked up the fuel...and there it went...like a dream...sounds sooooo great...so i wake up today to a phone call..."how fast can you drive, if we're there in an hour we can get the tanks"...so i throw on some clothes and made a 45 miniute drive in 20 minutes...hit 100 a few times [IMG]...so we got them...i came home...he called to drop them off by saying...get out the hose im coing up the road and the trailer is on fire....so we get here everything ok...the tanks are off...tomorrow...junkyard in the morning...then fix the trailer..then set wheels by the tank so i can get more excited!...then work on the 46 till dark

seems like a good weekend to me!

I spent about 10 hours today going through Ron Hall's collection of Stude parts. Ron Hall was the first guy to ever take a stude-powered car (his avanti) over 200mph... and shortly thereafter he died (early 90s). He left his wife with a garage-full of parts, and now she wants to move and has to sell the collection.

I volunteered to help wade through the boxes and boxes of parts...sort stuff out...take pictures, and inventory everything I thought was valuable or usable. I finished everything up today (last saturday was the first day of this project), and I think I have about 200 pictures of parts, and about 20 pages of inventory to sort through. Lots a neat history in there.

I finally got my garage space semi-straightened out. I just moved two months ago and had stuff piled everywhere. Made room for my compressor, blast cabinet and workbench and got my 63 Gran Prix started after two years of sitting.

Most of what I tore off is going to the scrapyard. I'm just after the engine, steering box, seat, dash and the wheels. Grille is going to a buddy. Might take some crap to Amherst next weekend. Anybody want anything let me know.

I played around with the latest firetruck. I sanded the paint off of the details on the grill shell (cast aluminum shell with stainless bars)

    Before:

    After:

I can't decide if the lower portion of the shell needs to be red or black between the ribs. FYI...the shell isn't that much red-er than the rest of the truck...it's wet from wet sanding.

    Any opinions?

  23. I didn't do much auto related. I did redo the old bar that's been sittin' in my shop for the last three years. Now I can finally take it in the house. So maybe it was auto related. Made room for more parts.

Not sure yet if I'm gonna recover the front or not. It'll probably be up to the wife. She at least let me bring it inside. [IMG]

  24. This was a WORK weekend but I did manage to get in a little FUN.First the work:
A sign for a local business approx.2'x 3' of 1/2" plywood from drawing to finished product(except for the clear topcoat).
    The fun:
From a piece of the leftover plywood;a HUGE striping brush.from cutout to nearly finished product.

  25. and the nearly completed sign;maroon base with ivory letters outlined in red and highlighted with white;emerald and slime green branches.

  26. the fun part;a drawing on a scrap of plywood
