The Mrs and I are starting the second half of the Route 66 run on thur. We did the Chicago to Ok city run on our way back from a Wisconsin event. So we are headed out of Dallas, back to OK, turning left and heading west to Santa Monica Pier. We are doing a 3 day stop over for business in Phoenix, then on to Cali. Then doing coastal down to San Diego. I am bring a stick. Then to Lake Havasu on the way back to Dallas. Planing on making it last 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. We are taking the wife's 45 chevy panel truck, so if ya see 2 folks standing on the side of the road, eating a sammich, looking lost, confused but happy, pull on in and join us.
You are living my dream man! -The panel and the trip! Have fun and happy motoring. Make sure you keep us up to date.
3 weeks on the road with your wife in an old truck? Will you still be married when you get home??? Danger my friend.
You guys are leaving the life! congrats...hopefully there will be something left here in California to enjoy after all this fires! enjoy
If you get to OK and head east... you're not going to hit the Santa Monica Pier... but then again Coney Island is pretty cool too. Yes, I'm a smart ass. Bob Owens (Flattop Bob) is south of Shamrock (east of Amarillo). He's got a little slice of heaven that's worth checking out and he's usually pretty darn friendly to visitors. Enjoy the ride.
Hey blasted, my wife and I are gonna do the same thing in a 63 Dodge we are also going to take our time and have a ball doing it.So if you see an old Dodge pulled over with the hood up and smoke everywhere that might be us so honk as you go by.
enjoy the trip....... slow down on the road from Ludlow Ca, to Newberry Springs Ca it's got some real ruff spots about 30 mph is still good thou. you going the 17 out of Phoenix to Flagstaff? is a nice drive, the wife would enjoy Sedona if you got the time, plus real scenic and lot of photo ops for the Hot Rod. I am in Havasu, it is cooling off so by the time you get here it will be perfect cruising temp. Kingman Az is having the street drags and show in old down town (Beale exit on the 40) on Sept 17 to 20 (show is on the 19th) pretty cool event if your in the area. if ya need anything while in Havasu hit me up.
Hey.....it can be done!! Flower and I did it, three weeks stuffed inside our '35 sedan.....we had so much fun that when we got home after two days we were ready to go again!!!!
I'm just North of Prescott, so if you run into issues, yell real loud! Or type here. You might want to head east on 89A and go through Jerome and up thru Sedona though. Either way, have a great time. When you go from Seligman to Kingman on the old road, watch out for the Hackberry signs and stop. http://travel.webshots.com/album/66155376evrzxR
My lady and I visited the Deer Farm near Williams, Az. just yesterday. Took the Old Road from there on into Flagstaff. Too bad it was in her Toyota...
I grew up just east of Amarillo. I remember the tourist stops advertising "prarie dog towns" in back of the building. But the "Big Texan" steak house was still cool last time I was there, and Palo Duro Canyon and the outdoor drama "Texas" were worth the time too. And who can forget the "Cadillac Ranch"? And miles and miles of miles and miles between Amarillo and anyplace in New Mexico? yeah, have a ball!
Hey, if you are near San Berdo from the 17 to the 20th, the Route 66 Cruise will be going on, whole lot of cars...and heat!
in conway , tx you can stop in and see the volkswagon slug bug ranch with a 34 buick sitting along with them and then a little ways up the road grab a steak at the big texas steakhouse in amarillo, then go another few miles and spraypaint a little bit at cadillac ranch other than that i havent seen any more of route 66
I am SO jealous! My sweetie and I are planning to run as much of the old Rt. as we can next summer. Post some pics to wet my apetite.
I guess we crossed paths yesterday Doc but I never saw ya. I left Flat-Tops at 2pm, grabbed a car in Norman and rolled into the drive at midnite.
