Original Black Widow for sale on EBAY

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by primeisnotacrime, Sep 12, 2009.

  1. Richard Riddell's widow is selling the original 'Black Widow' on EBAY. What a rare show car from the early 50's...such a rich history

I just spent the past fifteen minutes hunting for it and can't find it and usually I am pretty good with searches. A link or listing number would help.

I did find this link though http://www.flickr.com/photos/caharley72/3440653420/in/pool-catchy/

Are you talking about the black utility 150 57 in California? Pretty vague for a rare car but he's talking like this is how it was back in the day. I dont know.

    Hey,

Wow! and to think that car sat in pieces in a shop, here locally fir years with parts piled on it! Most who yiewed it at the time jus dismissed it as another old Tee!

I hope someone has 125K and steps up to the plate, the IRS will be at both the seller's & buyer's doors, cuz I'm sick of covering other's bills!

Sweet car, I remember the model. They should run it at BJ, and get twice that. I hope it goes to someone who appreciates it, museum?

I noticed the model kit, showed it with a bed & top? Anyone know the story of why it's not like that now?

Riddell's T is well worth that price. The story I've heard is that she really needs to sell it for a good price because the house was mortgaged for the build.

Spread the word around to your well-off buddies and help her out!
It would be awesome if a HAMBer got their hands on it.

Cool car hope it bring the dollars..... I preferred it in it's earlier guise when Wally Olsen first put it together though. It aquired the name "Black Widow" after the second owner went through and "restyled" it in about 1957 or 8. Prior to that it was a super low bbblllaaacckk, no B.S. stripped down track roadster. So hard core it didn't have a windshield! If memory serves it was in September 1954 Hot Rod. Easily my favorite track "T" ever!

This was never a real car until this one was built recently as a copy of the Monogram model kit.

....the model was on the market in the very early 60's. that's why there is a small amount of confusion. When I hear the term "Black Widow", I always think of the model first..just because that was an important memory from my youth...

All the white on the p/u dosen't make much sence for a black widow. Must have used all the red vinyl on the blue bayou.?

  24. I laughed when I was on the bay last night and it popped up 5 miles from where I live. I was like wtf is it doing in BAKERSFIELD. I just about woke a freind up to look at it online lol. I did not know it was here and now I am interested to track it down since its within 5 miles of me.-Weeks

That was the later redo of the car that got the "BLACK WIDOW" name. That was in car craft about 1958, May or so, I believe. That is how the car was restored. I wish I had a scanner and the knowledge to use it, because I have the earlier article right in front of me. Either way, neat car.

SCANNER? me neither...use a camera put the pic in yer puter and link to the pic as an attatchmant

I can't find the article right now but I have a mag a few years old with the story right after the last build and some build photos. The builder (who's name escapes me) is the same sandy haired guy who built the underslung dodge posted around here on the hamb done in lime green and some kinda light greenish buff etchprimer-like color. The Builder died, from cancer I think but the black widow was his last.

I have an oakland roadster show trophy for a car a Bob Olson built that took grand national champ. I was wondering for along time if he was a relation to Wally Olson.
    Here's the car
