Searched the forum, but didn't really find it exactly

I want to run disc brakes on my Dodge, keeping the stock suspension in place and stock 15" steel wheels..

Anyone know if the Scarebird setup will fit underneath the stock wheels? The car is a 49 Wayfarer with 10" drums up front.

on a side note, I was looking at a 90's Mustang 8.8" rear end with disc brakes, and they just barely fit...was wondering what thoughts were out there about running 1/2 spacer plates and longer wheel studs to be able to run the stock rims in either front or rear? Anyone ever go this route?

I really want to retain my stock smoothies and dog dishes.

    Thanks
    Mike

Look for a company, Ply-Do in the advertisements of most car mags. They can fix you up with a disk conversion.

Scarebird is on the HAMB, you can PM him directly. Hamber Olddaddy can help you as well. Your fronts should be no problem.

I run an 8" with longer studs and 1/2" spacers in the rear. I've only got a few hundred miles on it so far, but no problems.

Be sure that the pinion offset to the passenger side on the 8.8 won't be a problem in your car. It was a problem in mine and that's how I ended up with an 8".

Roger...thanks for the info...Yeah, I'm gonna be running a (gasp) 302 and T5 mated to the 8.8" locking rear..

Did you have the spacers made or just bought them from a speed shop?

    thanks

  5. old daddy kits rocks. I would like to point out I had to change my rims up front due to the mopar rim not haveing a rolled bead around ware the rim meets the disk. stock rims tend to flex a little, so I used two 15x6 ford wheels. also plydo is out of biz the owner passed away.

I'm just using store-bought and it seems OK. To maintain the "Hub-centric" feature of your rotors/wheels custom would be ideal though.

Yeah, I'm looking at going with an ECI underfloor master for either disc/drum or disc/disc, depending on what I go with in the rear at the end of the day. I have all the driveline parts, so really it's the rear end brakes that are in question. Right now, the stock rears just barely fit over the calipers, which made me think either a) spacers , b) grind the calipers a bit to fit, or c) grind the wheels, since it's the little bump on the wheel center to rim that is hitting - not the rim per se.

so the Ford rears are nice, because they are the same bolt pattern and they hub centric to a tee! If I go with spacers, I may have a machine shop make 'em so they have the hub centers.

Scarebird just got back to me and tells me their kit will fit inside the stock 15" rims, so... that solves the front fitment question.

Thanks again..I will let you know how it goes.

I put a '99 explorer rear end in my 52 wayfarer. 4:10 gear and disc brakes. Had to grind caliper a little to go over stock wheels. Store bought 1/4 inch spacers.

    Bob.

This is good info..yeah..I've got a rear end that is from a late 90s Mustang 5bolt with discs..I was thinking the same might have to be done..run spacers and possibly a little grinding..I've yet to mock up the arrangement, but will let you know..I like that it has the hub center that fits stock wheels perfectly..but if you space it out, you lose that. :(

    thanks for info!
