Swap meets, HAMB typically, but they are repopping finned covers. Not sure what the quality is like. Anyone examined them close?

We've got a vintage set on my wifes 54....And they leak like...well they pour oil about as bad as I've ever seen a valve cover pour!:D We've had issues trying to get a twist in breather to seal.

I'm going to hang these on the wall and just order something new.

Anybody repopping no name finned without breather holes? I have an old Cal Custom pair that are rounded on the ends, not squared off like the new ones. I'd like to find another pair here pretty quick. Thanks.

My 52 came with a set of offenhuaser finned on the 350. Ive seen finned valve covers at summit racing. Kinda pricey though. Think they where around 200 bucks.

i would avoid them if i could!! i have a set and they look nice are twice as thick as a normal valve cover and in tight quarters you will have clearance problems and the rocker arms seam to want to hit the tops of the covers i ground and ground and ground before i could get them to fit and not hit any where......even with the thick cork gaskets
but this is just my experience with them and from what i have been told it seems to be quite common on the rocker arms hitting

where are they leaking from??? from the bolts?? looks like you could add a warsher to it and stop that problem along with some good thick gaskets....atleast thats what i would do before i bought another set of valve covers

I see 2 problems here. Number one being you cant use aluminum as a ground. Surpirised valve covers havent melted. The other is they need polished up. Pretty oxidized.

sounds like the same ones that ripped the bolt hole, they were heavy and thick as hell. not to mention they hit the manifold and caused a hell of a leak.....

Years ago when it seemed everyone was looking for the billet ones and the new style chrome ones, I could buy these old finned ones all the time for $15 or $20 a pair. My buddies were always giving me **** about buying another set of valve covers. Then later they'd call me up needing a set.

the covers with the lil box sittin on em are the junk ones, i see people runnin em all the time. maybe mine were just a bad casting. the bolt hole area was real thin, with no gusseting. the vette covers in the middle work great. the polished ansens(by the red stockers) are nice, but the notches for the intake dont line up great, would have to touch that up. and they were expensive.

i really want to get my hands on an old set of offy ones, not the new repop styled ones with the 360 logo, and a set of moons with no holes.

my cal customs are in my avatar

I've been having issues getting them to seal where the breathers twist in. It seems like I can't get a good enough seal to keep oil from coming out from between them.

I'm begining to think that my PCV setup is the culprit. If you look in the pic you can see it's a breather with a hole in top for the PCV valve. We set it up that way because...well...it's what we came up with that day. I pulled that breather out a few minutes ago while the car was running and you can barely feel any suction. I then seperated the valve from the breather an Pow! it's pulling like it should. I guess we were all to ignorant to realize that we had it stuck in a breather....that breathes through holes all around the bottom of that lil cap....So, I've gotta get my **** out there tomorrow and work up something that actually functions for the PCV valve to go in.

As far as polishing them goes...That's not going to happen.
