Sweet, thanks. I'm trying to get my 327 to breathe better without the front fill manifold. I'm gonna have to do some grinding on the fins on mine and I'm glad to know I can get more if/when I screw these up.
the first time i put them on they leaked and i got to lookin and they were hitting the intake they dont have the cut out to go the intake so i put the thick gaskets on them and they fixed the leaking problem but like you said earlier they are cheap and a total waste of a hundred dollars for them..... i have a set of cal custom without the holes and if i ever come across a good set with the holes im goin to put them on it instead
got these on ebay then spent many many hours sanding to polish/buff them out - $90 not including labor
I picked these up of of Ebay for 70 bucks...maybe I overpaid, but I like them and they work great. They're Ansen's, and the original boxes they came in had to be at least 25 years old....never used.
These Cal Custom knock-offs, (made in Japan), were on my 55 when I bought it from my older brother in 1977. Actually, this is the only engine that these valve covers have ever been on. They were first installed in 1969, (along with the air cleaner and valve cover wing bolts). The air cleaner lid is a genuine Cal Custom.
I just bought some finned Edelbrock off ebay.. Can i get a thicker gasket for them?? Real dirty and stained. it will be alot of wetsanding to get them clean.. How do you get the satin finish on them?? All of them seem to be chrome, or polished.. I would rather have that satin brushed look.. Al
they look more like the moon covers here. offys are more like cal customs. at least all the ones ive seen
THANKS must be a Missouri thing lol after i posted that i was like that dont look right but it was spelled just like i say it so
Yea, you Missouri guys talk funny. I picked up a set of Cal Custom big block covers, at the NSRA show in Springfield Missouri about 6 years ago. Somebody chrome plated them. they look real nice.
But the bolt going into the head is a ground unless they are aluminum heads too Speaking of grounds what on earth would cause them to melt??
the m/t's on my '55 were on a boat motor, painted yellow,i used paint stripper on them and they came out great, kinda brushed aluminum looking glassbeading is the way to get them looking like new without the polished finish its amazing how good a trip through the solvent tank can make them look also
Got some weird ones I couldn't live without. I have a perversion for staggered bolt pattern Chevy valve covers, even though I can only run one set at a time. Very heavy cast (thinkin' pot metal) finned & chromed covers, with the bolts set down in tubes. Flip 'em over, and they've got the Keystone logo inside. They're way too tall to fit the truck, that 265 sits close to the firewall.
