It works on a BB, not on a SB.

Magnetos are always interesting to look at.

  6. with 3 duces on a SBC you better use a pertronix as you cant adjust the points unless you remove the rear carb, not feasable:eek:

  7. HAMBer GMC BUBBA can convert a small body points distributor to HEI. He is doing one for me now. HAMB Alliance members get free shipping.

Here is the link to his web site: http://www.lindertech.com/bhrs/

So then, back before the invention of electronic ignition conversions for the '57 -'74 GM points distributor used on the SBC nobody could run a 3-deuce setup?

    Not buyin' that one.

All you need to do is move a the plug wires over in the cap and turn the distributor a little to get the points adjustment 'window' in a better postion so you can get your wrench in there.

I'd run a recurved points distributor in a hearbeat, the GM points distributors are super-reliable. The points don't need attention very often.

This Tri-Power Pontiac has easy access to the distributor, it uses the same cap as any other '57 -'74 GM points distributor. You can't see the points adjustment window in this pic because it's just behind the PCV hose.

Only had to adjust the dwell on it once during the 30,000 miles I put on it during a 5-year period of time. Started right up every time and never missed a beat, had a stock coil too.

Makes me wonder how in HELL we ever got anything to run back when I was young

Why it was easier then: it only needed to work, not to impress the 12 year olds.

    COS,

Get a hold of me. It was the same situation I had on my TR-1 intake and couldn't adjust the timing due to the advance. I put in Petronix and rotated the carb. It is easy. Well for you.....it may take a day and a half.
    Later brother. VLPR!!!!

When you use the term HEI do you mean "Hall Effect Induction" which is basically what a pertronix is, (or is pertronix light triggered?) ignition triggered by a magnetic field interuption and like atilock brake sensors work, or High energy ignition like and accell or mallory deal. Same initials two different set ups, although the high energy ignition may use hall effect induction to trigger the spark.

People had to push their cars everywhere until electronics were invented. That's why you see all those trunk lids with two rusty patches.
