carb, ignition, ? HELP

    he all, new here. been checking out the site lately, looks good, so heres the skinny. just bought a 40 ford pickup. 455 olds, turbo 400, and an 1406 edelbrock carb thats freaking me out. its got a miss or maybe a surge from about 1000 rpm up til 2000 then smooths out and pulls like hell. timming is right. can't seem to get the carb right though. set the floats cleaned and recleaned everything. fuel preasure is right, i can't seem to get any adjustment out of the a/f screws i can turn them all the way lean or rich and it changes nothing. no vacuum leaks. when i put it in gear it pulls the idle down to about 700 and is real choppy, moved the timing around and still can't smooth it out. smells pretty rich at idle

    whats the idle at when in neutral? what ignition are you running? what is the fuel pressure set at?

    sounds like bad carb. put something else on it you no works.

    IMO edelbrock carb's ****...
    try a holley..good luck.

    yea it could be the carb if your not getting any difference out of the fuel mix screws and it always smells like its running rich.
