I just got the sad news that the Hamb has lost a great ambassador, mentor, father, and a great friend to many. Pops (Jim Markley) father of Seth Markley (whitey) on the board.

I am at a loss of words but am so happy that we made the Hamb Drags 09 a great weekend for him, I am sure there will be a benefit of some sort organized for the family.

Man this is a tough day!

    Rest in Peace my friend

This is very sad news. I knew Jim way back in my classic Chevy days back in the early 80's. Jim was always willing to take the time to talk to a punk kid with an old '56. He was a heck of a great guy and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Man I hate to hear that. I got to know Jim and Seth through the board and considered him a friend, even though we only saw each other at shows. An absolute great guy as has been attested to by all the Tulsa guys who have rallied around him in his time of need. I am sure these same folks will be a huge source of comfort in Jims passing.

To those same guys, When I talked to Jim at the Drags, most of what he talked about was how much you all meant to him. He bragged on every one of you just like you were all his kids, and in a way you were.

There are no words that are profound enough to say when someone leaves this world way too soon, so to Seth and his family I will just say how sorry I am for your loss.

God Speed Jim, it was an honor to know you.

Pops was an amazing guy. You know, sometimes there is a divisive line between the first tier hot rodders and those that come after. Pops was always welcoming and left judgement at the door.

Jim was a strong man of faith too. Jim's commitment to Christ spoke loud and clear. And that only enhanced his personality. He was a good example of how "Christians" are supposed to act. The whole "Faith is a verb" was certainly present in Jim's daily grind.

Here's a pic I stole from Mama Rash... Jim with his wife Dody.

I'm saddened but grateful I knew Pops.

got the sad news earlier from rashy.

i had the pleasure of spending some time with pops at the hamb drags last month, i like many others where emidlety drawn to him and his family. the whole extended tulsa crew is a top notch group. pops reminded me so much of my own father, whom also had a long battle with cancer, that i started to cry when talking to rashy at the drags about him.

i know damm well that pops is looking down on all of us, pain free and happy. i say the next time you fire up your rod, too throw 1 more rev or 1 more burn out, in honor of one of the most touching persons that I've meet in a long time.

    love you pops,

This is indeed a sad day for the Tulsa crew.

There is so much to say and yet I find myself at a loss for words.

Those of you who KNOW me, know that I am rarely at a loss for words. I'll write more when I can do it properly.

    Thank you all.

I'm so sorry to hear the news.:( Whitey, my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.:(

Jim was a dear, dear friend and a very special person. He ALWAYS sent pleasent PM's updating me on what was going on in his garage and his life and showed an interest in mine as well. A true friend indeed.

Last year Jim made the Detroit Autorama and the HAMB Mingle here at the house. He made the night very special for all with his charm, wit and shining personality. It's a weekend full of memories that I'll cherish forever.
