I'm building a 1930 Model A Coupe and I have a Chrysler 331 for it. My question is- Where can I go for a trans adapt for the motor to a top loader 4 speed? Are there any better trans for the 331? Thanks for the help.
i went to wilcap. they offer a adapter for manuel as well as a 727 auto. good guys to deal with as well.
Go to Wilcap. Is this an early 331 with the extended bell or a later 331 with standard length block? Transmission selection is going to be based on a combination of personal preference and what's available to make the adaptation. Click on the HEMI TECH banner/picture below in my signature line and it will take you to the an Index of more Hemi **** than you'll ever want to know. There is a section dedicated specifically to this topic.
I actually have both. The two hemi's are complete...the short bell housing had the bottom half already done. I'm going to build up one and eventually sell the other (whichever is the easiest to adapt). Thanks for the link. I do have tons of questions for that guy!
The short tail block is a lot easier than the long tail, + the heads are better. There's a lot of adaptors for GM & Mopar ******s, not many for Ford.
Manuals are SUPER easy to bolt up to the extended bell's because they only need the adapter plate, not a bell and all the other stuff. WAY cheaper! Just an FYI. I would recommend a hydraulic t-out bearing for simplicity, but mechanicals have been adapted with mods to the bellhousing.
