I'm building a 1930 Model A Coupe and I have a Chrysler 331 for it. My question is- Where can I go for a trans adapt for the motor to a top loader 4 speed? Are there any better trans for the 331? Thanks for the help.

    Go to Wilcap.

Is this an early 331 with the extended bell or a later 331 with standard length block?

Transmission selection is going to be based on a combination of personal preference and what's available to make the adaptation.

I actually have both. The two hemi's are complete...the short bell housing had the bottom half already done. I'm going to build up one and eventually sell the other (whichever is the easiest to adapt). Thanks for the link. I do have tons of questions for that guy!

The short tail block is a lot easier than the long tail, + the heads are better. There's a lot of adaptors for GM & Mopar ******s, not many for Ford.

I run a ford WC T-5 behind my 54 331 with a willcap adapter. 5 speed is much nicer than 4.

Manuals are SUPER easy to bolt up to the extended bell's because they only need the adapter plate, not a bell and all the other stuff. WAY cheaper! Just an FYI. I would recommend a hydraulic t-out bearing for simplicity, but mechanicals have been adapted with mods to the bellhousing.

Where can I find all that stuff? The throw out bearing and adapter plate?

Or you might try this guy if you decide to use a Mopar trans. :D
