A friend of mine has a stock '30 A sedan that has been running rough lately. It has a Holley carb on it that probably needs rebuilding. Who would you recommend to rebuild it or buy a rebuild kit from? I'm not sure how well the Holley performs or is there a better choice (new) that he should consider buying.
A little confusing. Holley bought Zenith at some time but still produced the same carb. Does it say Holley on the Carb??? I have bought Zenith rebuild kits from Snyders & Brattons and they were good quality. I suspect these kits will work in your friends Holley as well.
A's came with Zenith design carbs supplied by both Zenith (Zenith one) and Holley (Zenith two), and also a few by Ford, (Zenith 3). Replaceable parts interchange. There are several generations of Model A carbs, with most changes only of interest for correct restoration. Get a kit from Bratton's, keep original jets and any other original br*** unless actually damaged. Worry a lot about crud in the p***ages under the floor...you really should drill out the plugs at the drilling points and get in there to gouge out all the patina.
Bratton can supply at least three good books...start with the cheap one, a little pamphlet. The others have enough detail to be terrifying...remember, these things were once maintained by farmers with pliers and hammer.
