So I had a problem not getting spark and tracked the problem to the coil. I ran a wire from my Positive battery post to the Positive side of the coil, and wala problem solved ( for now). So my question is, What is that wire eliminating? Obviously there is a short in one of the stock wires, is there any way of telling which wire exactly without un-wrapping each wire?
    thanks a bunch,

A continuity tester hooked at each end of unhooked wire well tell if wire is ok........if you understood that!!!!

the wire you bypassed has a built in resistor somewhere....That could have burned out

To answer your question, when you jumper pos to the coil, it eliminates the keywswitch, and the crank/run circuit. Try this, jumper hot, crank and start it, lift the jumper, but leave the original wires on, see if it still runs or dies. Sinnce your not blowing fuses, you don't have a short you have an open. Could be a bad terminal, break in wire, failed ignition contact.

X 2 on the test light, very cheap and will find a multitude of problems if used correctly!
First, find out if you have voltage at the coil with the key on...then see if it still does when you crank the engine. If not, try the terminals at the back of the ignition switch. If it is good there, you either have a broken wire, so you'll have to cut apart the harness to test it along the way, or you have a bad resistor, if you're running a 12 volt system, or you might have a bad wire that goes from the starter to the soil (if your wiring is that way..provides full voltage to the coil only during cranking, i.e. bypassing the resistor)
