Need a good distributor guy, Boston area.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 2many projects, Sep 14, 2009.

  1. I'm running a Joe Hunt fake magneto distributor.
Pings all the time even with racing gas ,104 octane.
Who's in the Boston area, Arlington, Medford, Woburn, Revere, or Lynn that has a distributor machine and can check my centrifical advance and other culprits.
I have no vacuum advance naturally and it's just a stock SBC 350, small single feed Holly in a very light roadster with automatic.
I'm kinda stumped and I don't want to melt it down of course.
I've set the initial timing at 8 degrees and even backed it down to 3 degrees where it gets real soggy and still pings.
    any suggestions?

I think you need to go the other way. I have a Mallory dual point with no vacuum advance. I've got it set at 14, but it's a 4 speed car. Go as high as you can until it won't start when it's hot. See if that works.
