    I have bought a straight axel at an auction. The owner or the streetrod it came out of told me it was for a 40 ford and took nova hubs and brakes. I have an original 40 axel and as best as I an tell by measuring it is a 4 inch drop. The prob im facing is I cant find out who makes this axel and I want to know for sure the parts im going to order will fit... The only casting marks on the axel is the letters V C W on the drop portion of the axel on the front side. If anyone can tell me what this I would be greatful. also it looks new and he told me it only had 3k miles on it when they switched to a mustang 2 but he couldnt remember who made it since he didnt build the car. THANKS TO ANYONE THAT CAN HELP:)

    VCW = Vintage Ch***is Works.

    They made repo I-beam and tube axles. Owned by Alan Thorton (who also owned Flatlanders Hot Rods) in Norfolk, VA. He sold the businesses and moved to NC a few years ago.

    There's lots of good info on dropped axles in Roadsters' website:
    http://www.roadsters.com/axles/

    Hope this helps.

    The VCW axle was made in 3 widths 46, 47, and 48.5 inches. The ends were forged and machined here in the USA and welded together in the Flatlanders shop. They were also made to accept early ford style spindles so they will accept any of the common disk brake kits.

    VCW is now owned by Borgeson Universal in CT.
