For the first time this show was held in Massen / Germany. It´s right next to the old Luftwaffen Airport in Finsterwalde where the famous HeadBanging - a traditional 1/8 Mile race is held since 9 years. The Dirt Track Race in Massen was unbelievable! Only cool people, cool cars and a fantastic race! The race was for motorcycles and cars up to 1960. The first runs were in the sunlight in the afternoon...the finals were at night, with big lights on the oval!!!!! Big Thanks to Mike Lange who made the Dirt Track come true! Now we have every kind of traditional Hot Rod Racing over here in germany: 1/8 Miler Race - Headbanging in Finsterwalde, Race61 in Finowfurt Old Dirt Race Track (No Oval - a real 4km racetrack out of the 1920s!) - Dirt Track Race in Massen Yeehaaa!!! Just take a look on some videos of the Dirt Track Race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv-7fVY65Co http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y-BMBvG4sI&feature=fvw http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=63111619 If anybody comes over to germany next year -> take some time to visit one of the coolest Traditional Hot Ro Races on Earth!! Some Pics...
I have family in Germany and try and visit every summer. What time of year are the races? Are the open wheel cars allowed on the public roads there? I have never seen anything resembling a hot rod on my visits there.
The Race61 is end of june ( http://www.roadrunners-paradise.de/index-race61.php ) The Rust´n´Dust Jalopy is end of july ( http://www.rustndust.de ) The Headbanging is first weekend in september ( http://www.hotheadseast.com/ ) And the Massen Dirt Track Race is the second weekend in september. Cars without fenders are not exactly allowed, but there are possibilities to drive them legaly, it depends on how the car is built, it has to be traditional to have a chance.

Thanks Mike for the compliments. The place used to be just wasted land, took us about 2 months 6 men and some heavy equipment to build the track and the stage, bar, the race office and restrooms etc... We gonna improve the whole thing by building our own light poles from big wooden poles that we get from an old local railroad yard and we think about building some kind of grand stands on the back side of the track. We try to use no new materials just recycled stuff. Now we are lookin forward to the second weekend in september 2010.
Yes, we had a blast and everyone knows that drifting through the corners is slower than just rolling around them but what the heck! It´s so much more fun hahaha
Hank, It's a beautiful country and great people- my mom grew up in Kiel (survived the bombing runs at the end of WWII) and we used to visit her family whenever we could.
Hell no! (at least on the slow part) Pavement slides = drifting Countersteering is the fastest way around a dirt corner, and a good dirt racer is an expert at flicking the car into a slide. Looks like a blast, hope you guys have even more fun next year! Good luck!
