Small exhaust manilfold leak!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vintageauto, Sep 18, 2009.

  1. Hey guys,

I have a very small exhaust manifold leak, that is not worthy (yet) of pulling the manifold and replacing the gasket. What do you think would be the best way to do a temporary fix?
I was thinking of using an xacto knife and sliding some JB Weld into the opening to fill the hole. What say you?

JB Weld won't hold up to the heat. You need Thermosteel, sold at auto parts stores everywhere

  3. Hmmm, never seen it, I'll take a look...Thanks

Bite the bullet and fix it before the leaking g***es erode the gasket surface to the point that you need to get it milled to restore the gasket sealing surface.

  9. Don't know about other motors, but Chevy V-8's came with no gaskets on the exhaust manifolds. They do come in every gasket set but I never use them.

I'm with Unclee. A very thin smear of high temp silicone (Permatex Ultra Copper)if there are any pits. I think that the Ultra Copper is just the high temp red with copper dust in it.
