Curious if the 232 & 289 Studebaker V8's have interchangable parts. IE heads intakes and so forth. How much speed stuff is available for the 232?

Any help would be great - I am a Studebaker virgin!!

I'm a newbie to them also. Repair parts seem to be readily available. It only took about 5 min. to find and order a brand new water pump when mine started leaking. It's amazing after all these years that there are so many people still dedicated to these cars and their engines.

  6. I'm not sure on the 232. I know the 259 and 289 have
interchangable parts, I suspect the 232 is the same.

The V8 water pump is still being made today. It's not a rebuild. It fits over a decade of V8 engines. The Studebaker drivers club has links to most of the suppliers all in one place. I usually go there first. They aren't trying to sell you their parts, just trying to help you find what you are looking for.

Are the intakes hard to find? How about any other speed parts?

you can use caddy intakes also with minor mods..
that kinda drives up the aftermarket intake prices though
as they can be used on both caddy and studebaker... if your lucky its only listed on the bay as studebaker

that what i said in 2005, apperantly its more to it then just minor mods
and btw, bringing up an 4 year old thread? COMEon!!!!!!

check out http://www.studebakervendors.com it has some great stuff.

I havea 259 and i know that the pretty much the only difference between all their engines is the bore and stroke. after 1960, the valve covers have only 2 bolts, and thats the only other difference i can think of.

Also, check out this old thread. good info. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273809

All the bits can interchange from the 224 ('55 only) on up to the 289. If late bigger valve heads are used on the 232, there is some juggling of rocker shafts and pushrods due to a differing shaft support height (I believe) may be a slight difference in deck height. The 289 can be bored to 304.5". I believe the Avanti R-3 Cylinder heads are being replicated as well, but that also means a different intake. All the Studebaker intakes interchange and as was pointed out the early Cadillac manifolds can be used. Good, strong engines.

A real simple and cheap upgrade on the engine(mine is a 259) is to take that stock two barrel manifold and ream it out and re-stud it for a four barrel, there is plenty of meat there and an Edelbrock fits right on there fine..was a great fix for my Texas summer vapor locking and a smoother idle, top end acceleration is pretty sweet too...the weakest link now is the slushbox automatic trans..looking into the 400R kit upgrade, anyone done that?..also the Turner front disc brake set-up and I'm done?
