Hey Soto! Here's a Wikipedia pic I thought I'd throw at ya, just for "inspiration." Dead stock, of course, but still cool. '48 business coupe.

I never did a pre-measure on original height ..Motor was out

SWAG would say about 5-7 inches, I had a MII front and triangulated 4 bar rear ..

Was allot of work to make it sit that low ..

Here is a fauxtoshop picture a HAMB member did .."HatMan"

SINCE THESE PICTURES, I HAVE ADDED A CONSOLE WHICH HOLDS RADIO. THE AFTER MARKET GAUGES HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED, AS I GOT ORIGINAL GAUGES WORKING. I HAVE ORIGINAL RADIO DELETE PLATE IN PLACE OF THE ORIGINAL RADIO. I HAVE AIR BAGS IN REAR, AS I DRIVE A LOT, CARRY LUGGAGE AND A 100LB GOLDEN RETRIEVER. IT'S A DRIVER.

My47; That desoto has got to be heavy as a tank.
I'd go 440 if you can find one cheap. Maybe a running Fury, etc. beater as a donor?

I can't help think about the Cunningham's Desoto and I don't think anyone else has mentioned a NY TAXI, as Desoto made a lot of taxi's. You see them in old B&W movies all the time. That'd be a lot of yellow.

Not to hijak "sot's" thread, but JACKie, did you have ISSUES around the steering box??? A dream of mine is to put a DeS Hemi in a 46-48 coupe. It would help a TON to know in advance if I need to get radical on the steering. THANKS in advance to somebody who's already DONE it!!!

Nothing tricky with the steering box. I originally had a 291 DeSoto Hemi from a '55.
When switched to the 392, still no tricks. No alterations to the firewall, radiator support or steering box.. Had the fenders, bumpers, and grill removed before installing the 392.

47 Soto, the guy is local here. I love the way he works. He only does 1 customer at a time. He gives you a date to bring your project, and that's the only project he works on until finished.
I took mine on a Monday morning, and picked it up that Friday, 1 week. Had to do everything, seats, carpet, headliner, and door panels. I do not remember total cost, but I do remember it was very reasonable. A 1 man operation.

Ask away for anything. I am glad to offer any help I can.

MoParJack, MAN! That's great to know about the steering, because that CAN be practically a stopper (OR major-league delay!) with a lot of set-ups !!! THANKS!

(BTW, I surely LIKE how that Hemi fills up the engine bay. But, ya sure didn't have any ROOM LEFT OVER, eh? LOL)

Actually, I know that's not a joke. It's a shame more people didn't recondition, maintain, restore AND rod/custom cars of the past. They ARE worth saving and enjoying. When was the last time you could lie down and rest comfortably in the back seat of a modern automobile?

We need to save & adapt the oldies, to WHATEVER purpose or hobby discipline.

In case anyone was wondering I did not fall off the side of the earth. With my Army school, family, and mocking my Soto back up, I have been to lazy to type LOL. I finally got the driver side door's aligned, wow what a job. It took me two day's, the wife came out and even helped me wrench a little bit. I'm about to get the welder out this weekend and make magic:cool::D So expect some pics soon

  28. Gotta second that grill comment about how it "looks like its commin after ya"! What a sweet ride it will be - I vote for a no chop, lowered, wide white walls (maby red wheels). Keep posting pics of the progress...
