Is Eve covering Adam's backdoor or the other way around????

I think a pink 59 caddy with Marilyn on a continental kit would look just SWELL!!!

A Dave Mann tribute mural would look great on a
    late '60's styled Pan Head.

I noticed it getting popular a few years back on the back of lowriders. Last names, usually- Gonzalez, Puente, Palacios, Rodriguez, etc etc. Then JJ did it & everyone seemed to jump on the bandwagon. To me, it looks goofy. I don't mind the name of a car done discreetly on the rear somewhere, but the huge murals & names really ruin the look of a good car.

BTW, I too remember the murals on the tailgates of mini-trucks depicting a picture of the mini-truck. Those were sad days......

A while back I was at a local car show checking out a 65 Caddy, it had it`s trunk open and the spare tire cover was painted w/ a nekkid girl leaning over said car and below it it said"just pimpin`"..there was a group of guys s tanding around so I asked who`s car it was and this 70 year old white guy said it was his ! I could just picture him cruisin the old folks home w/ some grannys in spandex!

  14. artwork is best left hanging on walls. i have never understood why someone shaves everything off of a car, makes it real smooth and then paints "lumpy" flames or some such stuff all over it. names done in all upper case old english script are really hard to read, although that hasen't stopped all the local hommies around here.

This was one of the few car art offerings I liked. Under the SHHH, in small letters, it says, "I'm being blown." The car is supercharged...

You know i have to take offense to this shitty subject..
Yall talk alot of shit, i guarantee you ain't got the balls to talk shit to any guy with a Lowrider, I dig Lowriders, it's my first love, I had Dan Barnett do something on my trunk and by the looks on how many people downloaded my pic. I'd say they liked it..Now you had to have looked at my post to start this whinning.. I worked hard for my ride, nobody built this for me, my hard earned cash and if I wanna put a mural of an aztec chic on my ride well then I will. hey "I didn't build it for you and I don't think anybody else did it for your approval.. Turn the cheek next time. Quit this whinning..

  19. See what ya'll did...you got Alex all worked up. Next thing you know, he'll be old and cranky just like me. [IMG]

Personally, I like things lettered or painted on cars and bikes...and not just because I make money painting that kinda stuff, either. [IMG] Actually...that kinda stuff is what got me interested in learning how to paint signs, in the first place. Don't get me wrong...there's TONS of crappy stuff being painted, on cars and bikes, everyday. Sometimes it's kinda corny...you know the ones...50's pop songs and Taz's and Betty Boops. I'm not crazy about most of the airbrush stuff...but only because it tends to be executed poorly. And the 70's vans!!! Man, that was some cool sh*t! It got old quick, but I remember collecting the trading cards and droolin all over the artwork on those things at the Autorama type shows! I think as long as it's well done and "fits" the car, it's fine. Of course, everybody has an opinion as to whether or not it "fits" the car....this thread is evidence of that. Try not to take everything so seriously...especially low brow art...it's just a car and some paint.

  20. oh yeah, forgot to mention...I don't really "get it" when people get their ride painted ON their ride, either. [IMG] whatever moves ya, I guess.....

I like the naming of cars and the murals that go along with it. All my vehicles are named. Customs should always have a "El" or "La" in front of the name.

Even better like Barnett brought up is people who have murals of the ride painted ON the ride and the ride on the ride shows the ride painted....

Along these same lines, and 67 Imp can verify, the worst offender of this variety I have ever seen was in 1979 the year I started driving. I saw this ugly green Dodge Dart with a picture of this bald black guy who kinda looked like Isaac Hayes (of Shaft fame) painted on the drivers front door, totally stock car. My first thought was " Who the fuck would paint that guys picture on a car?" Then I looked at the driver saw and it was him ! True story.

My personal choice would be Selena with "In Her Loving Memory" painted on it.

At the second P&P show I only saw two lowriders Al...and neither had anything painted on them and they were both excellent cars. In fact, they were two of the best looking lowriders I had seen in years.

I did not see any at the second show.

I have not seen the pics of your car, and if that is your bag fine...it is your car. In fact, if Barrnet did it (or Hamilton) I imagine it is a work of art...Im still not crazy about that stuff being on cars but yours would probably look good at least. Most of the stuff I am talking about is nasty looking crap that reinforces the "rat rod" image or is so cheesy it is "Lost in the 50's."

Bottom line, I don't like murals and I hated the 70's and stuff like vanning and murals on the side of the van and so on. And no, I don't like the lowrider tradition of barbarian women and such on the cars, especially on a car that had some awsome work on it but all you see is the paint. I like simple.

You guys crack me up...anit Boyd this, anti billet that, anti Goldchainer that...but if any one says anything bad about some thing any of you are into you go crazy. It's okay to post "this guy spent this" or "oh, what a great car except he used billet pedals in it." I guess only certain people get to say certain things and have opnions on here now.

Then out comes tuff guy mode..."go talk to a lowrider and say this."

I would never go up and talk shit about somebodies car directly to their face...unlike many of the HAMBer's have in my area about my cars by the way (the pedal example is my car), and I have never started anything with any of those people and many of them I consider friends....

Talk to the Goatsuckers about it? I can anytime.

God forbid I did not see the skater connection (and the fact I did not really understand what Butt was saying the first place) and god forbid I mention something I see that I find odd and yeah, I don't really care for.

Guys on the HAMB used to come down on the "malt shop" scene on the deck lid and the name from a song on the car...I have never liked stuff like that. Now a few people do it (Jesse James) and now it is cool...I find it kind of cartoony myself.

To top if off you throw in the turn the other cheek thing....ummm, okay man.

So I guess I can't have an opinion anymore on here?

I also like the PM's and such I am getting from people on some of this...the basic fuck you and die kind of thing.

I say one thing about skaters (and I really do not think I got that nasty) and about murals and now I am one of the HAMB's number one dicks?

Considering the long histories of some of you and your posts in the past that is rich.

Now I have to look at PM's and see if Al is one of the ones that wants to kick my ass over this stuff... [IMG]

So sorry Al if I upset ya...are we cool now or do I have to look over my shoulder at Sherman? [IMG]

Saw a two tone blue 56 Ford in the early sixties. It was lowered, dual smittys, and spinners. Had "Bluebird" lettered on the rear fenders. A true, rural, lo-buck, barn lot custom. I was a kid and thought it was cool. However, I hate murals. I want no part of owning an expensive, mobile picture frame.

I like the nose art angle of this revived trend. I'm just as into WWII aviation as I am cars and I am dying to figure out a way to do it in a way that makes sense on my coupe. But even that will be simple and not over the top like the VOODOOKREEPER. The atomic injectors art is cool too. Something that ties into the car. An icelandic princess with her pet polar bear weilding a sword bigger than she is seems kinda silly to me. [IMG]

  28. merc50...sorry if you're getting hate mail. I can't believe this is gettting taken so seriously....it's just paint. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about what is and is not cool on cars. I'm in full agreement with you about "malt shop" murals and "lost in the 50's" themed paintings...my problem with most of them seems to be that they all look VERY similar. However...to each his own.

As for JJ making something cool...I think he more than likely is influencing some people's taste (or lack thereof), but like I said...this kinda thing has been around a lot longer than JJ or Discovery channel.

As for the anti Boyd, anti gold chainer, anti biller sentiment...that's just part of the rebellious nature of a lot of folks on this board. For me...all that stuff lacks heart and warmth. It's too sterile and "safe"...meaning the average citizen is gonna LOVE it when they see it at the Friday night cruise.

You CAN have an opinion...it just happens to be an unpopular one...something you have to be prepared for when you voice an opinion. You stated your opinion and now you're gonna hear other people's opinions. We just shouldn't take each other's views so personally.

I'm not even gonna get into the skater-debate...that's already been over-discussed. [IMG]

Now...everybody gather 'round for a big group hug (watch out for Rashy's hands, though).

I CAN say that since I've discovered the HAMB, been turned onto the "low brow" style of art, received a gift subscription to JUXTAPOZ, taken up pinstriping, etc, etc, I've learned that I can take my artistic side and apply it to hot rods in a whole MULTITUDE of ways that was not possible in the same context as when I was a kid. I like that. Just like anything else, I may not agree with everyone's style. No big deal.

Merc50, I think you should post each of the PM's you are getting and the person name that is saying it. Sounds like they are afraid to state their opinion in the open.

I for one general do not care for names on cars but there is always exceptions to the rule (meaing I have seen some I love and wish I could own... usually a traditional done mild custom or a 50's hot rod). I hate seeing murals of a car of the same car.
