Gonna start working on a 1953 Chevy 210 4-door soon. Its my first real project since high school and I am really fired up about it. Its the wife's car and has been sitting in Arizona for the last 15 years. Its getting a 235 out of a '54 Chevy. We are having the engine put in it and get it running and then we will drive it to Texas and start really working on it. If anyone has some ideas, we really haven't decided what we wanted to do yet. Thinking about a very mild custom.....a little lower, hop up the engine a little. We have 3 kids, the reason for the 4-door, and will definately be putting seatbelts in, and probably upgrade the brakes. Here are a couple of pics.
A popular trick used in the 50s was to remove the rear door handle and leave the front so that it looks like a 2 door sedan while still having the accesability of a four door. Also filling the hood gap or peaking it, while being ALOT of work, (trust me I peaked the hood on my 51) it looks awesome. Having a super clean underhood area was really important to the old custom guys too, dont let anyone talk you out of it, if the motor is already out of it it makes the job much easier. On my own car I also removed the trunck lock and midified the latch and ran a choke cable to the package tray, no electronics and reliable.
Nice project, looks rust free.. I already like the paint... Upgrade brakes and electrical system they are a must.
I agree, family ride, dual carbs, pipes that purrrr, lowered with skirts, dual MC, brakes(check the linings) otherwise are just fine, and new steering tie rods and idler arm bushing, Edit; I agree with Tman, next post, would choose Eci brake upgrades.
Only if ****olian speed parts interest you. ECI makes a nice MC mount/adapter that lets you run a dual MC and use the stock pedal (auto only) Stock springs are narrow, 1 3/4. Order blocks from one of the Chevy dealers.
Cool, thank you. I will probably drop you a line when I get stuck, its been a while since I turned some wrenches.
Thank you everybody. I've only worked on '60's/'70's Fords til now so the Chevy thing is new to me. I really appreciate all the help and info I can get.
