Also, a hot rod CAN BE TOO LOW!

While we're at it, more chop DOES NOT EQUAL MORE COOL!

The right amount of chop does however equal COOL!

I would agree, does the car (hotrod or custom) scream "CHOPPED" or do the lines look proportioned.
Same is true for lowering, some cars just look broken.
You'll get alot of opinions and it depends on the car. Like grandpa used to say, "If we all liked the same thing, we would all be sleeping with grandma."

I just dropped my 63 1/2 Galaxie 3 inches in the rear with blocks. Had to cut out the drive shaft tunnel out under rear seat to stop it from rubbing form a new one and weld it back in... TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! Pile up here I come "dragging tail" all the way!

2005, Big Olds with no interior, windows, top, etc. I knew the stance wasn't were I wanted it BUT I also knew I needed to wait till I had all the weight in the car to determine how much lower I wanted to go in the front.

2009, after everything was completed including 2 inch drop spindles installed.

Might not look like alot in the photos but really made a differance in person.

I have to disagree, a custom can be to low as well. Sitting on the ground is not a stance.

"Proper Stance" occurs when you set the space between your frame and the ground 1/2 inch less then the average speed-bump height in your town.

draw a line from the bottom of the front rim to the botton of the rear rim. The bottom for the car should be parallel to, and no lower than this line. Talkin rods here not customs. Thats a different story.

  21. I worked long and hard to get the stance right on my old truck. I think I nailed it. Is it too low? I don't think so. Scrub line sucks but I drive the snot out of it any way.

I would consider that a near perfect (if not perfect) stance for a custom. I dig the way the Sam Barris Merc sits. It's not completely hammered but certainly has stance and style. Your car follows that same formula too I think.

For customs just look at Larry Watson's "The Grapevine" or Duane Steck's "Moonglow" or Lanny Ericson's "Violet Fantasy". Those are on the low side. On the high side look at Reverend Larry Ernst '51 Chevy. That car is perfect. Those are all somewhere around perfect in my book.

That's Stock height in the rear.(I cut 1 1/4 coils off the front)
Being out of work and having to pay for job training cuts into my car fund to lower the rear with 2" blocks.

Is that possible on a Custom? Here are my two. Not low enough to suit me yet, but close.
