'54 Chevy grill in a '54 Ford - Any other custom grill ideas??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by daddy_o's_diner, Sep 20, 2009.

  1. I'm picking up my new '54 Ford Customline project in a few days (I'll post pics of the car after I get it home) and am already looking for ideas.
I've seen a few pics of these cars with a '54 Chevy grill installed and like the look. How much and what modifications are necessary to get this grill to fit? Details please!!!

Also any other custom grill ideas for a '54 Ford? Pics are appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'm doing the same with my car, as soon as I can buy a repop grill.

A shortened and floated stock grill looks good, desoto grills look good too, as well as plymouth grills. Im a big fan of '53-'54 Meteor grills too, they look really and are bolt in. Tube grills look okay too.

I'd like to see some too, my dad has a 53 and his neighbor is thinking about a 54 ragtop. Trying to get my dad to go more Kustom with his... already convinced him the headlights need frenching, so maybe some pics would help him along.

I'll scan a picture tomorow of a '54 ford sunliner with a chevy grill (13 teeth). It ****s not having a scanner sometimes. It looks good. Also, a complete '53 surround and grill looks really good too.

My 54 had a 53 grill. I didn't build it and it's been 15 years but I think they added the Chevy bar to the Ford parklamp ends, hiding the splice with a tooth. Preety simple if I remember right. The only thing they did I didn't care for was paint the center bar black.

no prob. i can get out into the garage and snap a pic or 2 for ya tomorrow...............................john

  15. Any pics yet John??

Also how much too short is the chevy bar. Could I use a stock chevy bar, move the Ford parking lights in slightly, and float the grill in the surround? Just an idea!?

I'm not wanting to run any teeth so hiding a splice behind one is not an option. I want a clean, wide look for the front of the car.

Thanks again for any info/ideas. Dave

  16. How about two Dummy spot lights turned around and welded to a 53 Pontiac grill?
