I think i screwed myself on this one.A couple of weeks ago i put one of my cars on the lift to get it out of the way. That same night i parked my Buick under neath the lift and low and behold the car on top leaked an oil spot about eight inches in diameter on the roof of the Buick. The Buick is currently has epoxy primer and a light skim of bondo under it.I am clueless has what to do to fix this problem.Any suggestions on this one....Upfront thanks for any help
No you have to oil the whole car to even it out. Use lots of fisheye remover when you paint it though.
Yup, clean the hell out of it. Take that whole area back to metal and redo the work. ****s, but that's what needs to happen to get it back to being right.
If you have a good epoxy primer over your filler...you should be fine to use grease and wax remover to get oil off the primer.........sand and re-prime your area.epoxy primers do not "soak up" like the old laquer stuff.
tis true. Epxoy has a really good seal. wash the hell out of it first with dawn dishsoap and water. and pay really close attention to where the "oily" water runs off to. it can end up in places that You didn't know were there (gl*** channels, hinges, seams, etc, etc.) after that, I would use some dupont final kleen on it about 7 times. after that, get it wet. if there is no "beading" of the water in the area, it should be clean enough to get back to work. have You sanded the primer yet, or is it still skinned over?
Take that spot plus extra and remove down to the metal and make sure it is clean ! Then sand , fix the area again . RetroJim
Hey, Ya may not be as screwed as ya think! Is the epoxy primer sprayed to a semi-to gloss finish? I'fd first try to remove all traces of the oil with a good grease & wax remover, DO NOT WASH THE AREA WITH WATER PRIOR TO THE REMOVAL OF THE OIL WITH THE GREASE & WAX REMOVER! Use alots of clean rags with the remover, and only when the area dried to match the surounding surface go with the hot water and soap. Sand the area, and shoot a test panel with more epoxy prior to any top coating. S****ey Devils C.C. " Spending a nation into generational debt is not an act of comp***ion"
after the grease and wax remover, you might also try simple green, it emuslfies(sp) the oil left over. as pimpin said, go with the g&w 1st or the water may carry the oil deeper into the primer. skull
Your acting like it it's the end of the world. It aint like the lift collapsed on it, filler is cheap and it is better to be safe than sorry
I really am not thinking it is the end of the world.I am more than less pissed at myself for letting this happen..At this point i just added one more item to the to do list Thanks for all the replies folks,i will be putting some of them to use tomorrow
