    Dead ON !!! Thanks, dude!

  6. Given what a '57 300 is worth, the car is most certainly worth restoring. Worst case you have to put another top on it, well you need a donor to replace the glass anyways, any big rear window '57-'59 2dr ht will work.

  10. According to some googled up info and on Chevytalk.org, that '59 was a rust free 60,000 mile just about all original car that you could have showed and done reasonably well with. Incorrect uhpolstery was about all that was wrong with it. 6-cylinder Bel Air. Just a lot of accumulated dust and dirt from 50 years of driving.

Some of us are old enough to remember when the funeral homes ran the ambulances, which were basically a sedan delivery with a gurney. Drivers weren't paid much, and had little or no training. Just go to the scene, pick up the people and high tail it to the hospital. I'm finding that one of my functions is to help young people understand what's good about today.

We found a 1929 Packard limo on a ranch between Tecate and Ensenada, we notice the car was intact, except for the right front fender. anyway the owner sold the vehical to my freind and I ask him the history of the car, it turn out that the car had belonged to his grandfather who was the mayor of Ensenada, aprerently it got in a wreck with a 1930 packard, the guy pulls out this old picture , you would never guess who the other driver was , Al Capone. It turns out that Al Capone owned a casino in Ensenada in the early 30's and was turning a corner and hit the other packard . Well I could'ent talk him out of the picture but my freind still own'es the packcard. It just sits there waiting to be restored.

My dad was one of those guys, he has some pretty fun stories. Got away with a TON of automotive antics because of it!

I have a copy of that book on my desk right now along with all my other car research materials. It is definitely not a book you would want to leave on your coffee table when the pastor comes for dinner. The book was a gift from a friend who only saw the cover and remembered I liked old cars. When I told her what was INSIDE the book she was horrified.

The crazy thing is when you look at these old b/w crash photos you look at the car first, then the people second. It takes you a second to realize just what is happening in the photo. The lack of color really masks the horror of the scene.

When I worked at Mustangs Unlimited the owner was well known for going through your stuff when you weren't there. I used to leave my work papers on the desk on top of the open book (usually to a very graphic and obvious death photo). Amazingly my desk stopped getting snooped over....
