Has anybody used this spray on chrome stuff on a whole body?? almost like an undercoat under a candy paint?? Just wondering if it is ok to spray this on the whole car body or not, what's everyones experiences with this stuff?? 1shot
Yeah you can put it on the whole car but it is very particular. If you get a speck of dust, it looks like a black ring around it. If you can get a clean enough job then it will look okay. You would have to at least put a layer of intercoat clear over the chrome before laying down the candy. my personal opinion is that it is just to "look at me" to be the overall effect. I would do this for a section like the roof or flames. When Chromalusion first came out in the nineties, I painted many completes for customers that just had to have the new thing. They were gaudy and many were repainted after only a year or two because the fad changed to something else. Oh and by the way, the equipment to do the job properly is around 10k but I suppose that you could make a buiseness out of it.
I remember when they painted Jeff Gordon's,Stockcar for the Pepsi 400 one year. Looked great under the lights...
Hmmmmm. Ok, I understand. I'd probably need to take it to a buddys garage then mine has to much stuff floating around it, the damn thing would be speckled with black rings. DOes it require any wet sanding?? Or just shoot it on there, make sure it is a good coat all over no errors, and then clear coat it, then put mt candy over it?. 1shot
The base you lay down has to be perfect, not a sanding scratch, chip, dirt etc. or it will stand out big time and dont chip it or scratch it,no touching it up,,
I saw them do that to a Mustang on "Pimp My Ride" on MTV. As you may imagine, it looked terrible. The job itself was done right, quality-wise, it's just that the whole "chrome car" thing looked so bad I wouldn't wish it on any car.
I saw the process used on TV once. The show I was watching was fixing up a car for a guy in ZZ Tops wife I think. The car was gold and they just did the roof which looked ok. I remember the base coat has to be black....and then this stuff sprays over. Neat for certain panels....not a whole car. You can do a Youtube search of Cars of Dubai to see many chrome and gold exotic cars. On second thought, if I were a pimp I'd have a chrome 70s Lincoln!
on the caddie for Gilligan which is Billly F Gibbons wife, after about 5-6 months it looked like **** and they took it off,Billy said they flaked the roof after that..........I would'nt touch that **** even if it was cheap, which its not!
Not to be rude but this is not paint you spray in a garage like others have said no dirt meaning a nice down draft paint booth and lots of prep time. It is expensive I would have a pro spray it or it will look like ****. I have also heard of derablity issues with it.
I know the guy that sprayed that, Gary Watson. He was pissed because a cmera man turned around in the booth and got a big *** print on the job just after Gary finished. It looked like **** but on TV they edited it so that you couldn't see anything.
I think some of you guys are not understanding what the Original poster's questions is. Insted of laying down a silver matalic base for a candy he want's to know if he can use the chrome paint. It sounds like a good idea and I am sure the candy would have a different look, possiably a little flat. It would be worth a try on a test panel.
what Im sayin is that over time the chrome look bleeds and looks like **** so it would look bad even under the candy over time
Ok so then the view of everyone is that this stuff ****s. Would it be insane to just have a guy dip the whole car body instead and chrome the whole thing THEN spray my candy over it?? (I know that has to sound crazy to some of you lol). 1shot
You say that but back in the 70s there was a 56 f-100 in Oregon that had chrome plated fenders, hood, running boards and tailgate plus the normal stuff like dash, everything under the hood etc.very cool since is was painted black where it wasnt dipped
I saw somewhere where they shot a 32 ford sedan and threw some candy red on it and it looked like the finish that the Hot Wheels had when they first came out
Your bodywork has got to be PERFECT! You're creating a huge mirror...ever look into a warped mirror? Any small defect or wave in your body will be magnified and the FIRST thing everyone notices.
You should bring this question to the techs at Alsa corp. as they produce this paint. I think I saw a project in airbrush action mag but I think they used Mirra ghost chrome and it was not as shiny as I think you are talking about. Maybe this will help??????
I was wondering about using the alsa stuff on the bumpers and pot metal chome pieces on my 56 buick special. We dont have a local affordable chrome shop here and it would be very expensive to have the pitted pot metal repaired and dipped. Anyone used it for this application?
Alsa chrome is the brand we tried this on three Lolas ... a Sports 2000 and a single seat Lola F3 - boss wanted them to look like McLaren F1 - they were a ***** to do (black, silver, clear) and the clear stage dulled the shine. Basically it was many $$$$ for nothing. I suspect that on small parts its okay but not on large surface areas.
