Here's some pics I shot at Billetproof in Antioch on Saturday. I went just as a spectator this year since I didn't register in time. On another thread there were lots of people *****ing about the show, but I thought it was a pretty nice show. It did have a more quiet and somber mood to it compared to previous years. Where the band was playing, it was in bright sun and there were only about three people sitting in the bleachers. Once you got about fifty feet away from the bleachers, you'd barely notice that there was a band there at all. The little kid driving around in front of the stage on a go cart/ice chest was louder than the band. I think it would be a little more exciting if the band was located in the middle of the show where more people could hear them, and located somewhere where you didn't have to sit in the hot sun to be able to watch or hear them. It must be a little demoralizing for the band to be playing and having only about five or ten people watching them. It was a nice collection of cars though, and something for everybody. The races at the Speedway next door were a blast as usual. They had a couple of spectacular wingless sprint car crashes that were pretty scary to watch. The first one was when a sprint car shot airborne and tore out a big plywood wall, went tumbling somehow right through the safety cables, clear over the exit lane, through some more fences and landed out in the fairgrounds (I think where that gold flamed Caddy was parked during the show). It looked like it rolled about 6 or 7 times before it came to a stop. The guy walked away from that wreck to a cheering crowd. But then soon after that when they started racing again, a guy's big rear wheel fell off and somehow that got another sprint car flying through the sky end over end way up near the top of the safety fence right in front of us -- a good 15 or 20 feet in the air. Pieces of the car body were showering all over the place and people down below in the walkway were covering their heads. The sprint car came flying back down facing backwards going pow right into the ground and the poor driver was just sitting there looking stunned with the whole body of his car torn away and the roll cage bent up. It took about a half hour to extricate him from the car. I read on the Speedway's website that the driver had four broken bones in his back and bruised lungs, but that he luckily didn't suffer any paralysis. They said he'd probably be in a body cast and laid up for about three months. I feel bad for the guy. He sure came down from the sky hard when he landed. Those sprint cars sure are fast though and fun to watch. All the cl***es of racing there are fun to watch. I was glad to see a few more of the Billetproof crowd there at the races than on previous years. If you haven't been to the races next-door, you don't know what you're missing.
Man I was there for that crash it was amazing! I cant believe he broke his back but is not paralized. Hope that guy and the band member who got hit by the drunk driver are alright soon. Reading this ****s I hate when racers get hurt Dave Hitch
i was in the fairgrounds friday night when sprint car #1 toppled into the fairgrounds not 60 feet from me. we ran over, to find the driver awake and alert. he kindly donated (more like left) pieces for next years trophy. driver #2 is in a body cast with 4 broken bones in his back, on a breathing machine and he can thankfully feel all his extremidys. his helmet was cracked!!! and suffered a small brain contusion. however, long road to recovery, but he WILL recover.
Wow thats some scary ****! We sponsor a sprint car the Al's Roofing Supply #69 Driven by Brent Keading. It takes major balls to strap in one and drop the hammer. Wish those guys a speedy recovery.
