I had a question for ya'll. I have about six big boxes of old (80s)hot rods magazines a guy at work gave me a couple years back and I need to p*** them on to someone else. What do you guys do with your old mags? Do you donate them to a library, book store, friends, relatives? I hate to just throw them out cuz there is a lot of Rod and Customs, Street Rod, etc. Does the HAMB have a "central library" for this? That may sound like a stupid question but if we had a place to store and maintain them to use for research, etc., I'll bet we would have the largest collection of old mags and reference material around. Maybe we could send them to disadvantage kids who can't afford to buy them. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Cool idea man and props on trying to p*** it on. We have a huge collection of these. If you feel like being a heartless capitalist there is a big market for complete years. Otherwise take em to a swapmeet and sell em to a kid CHEAP (whole lot for five bux kinda thing). Thats how I have got lots of mine. I feel like the logistics of trying to organize that kind of database would be difficult. Ecspecially on a national scale. Good luck man
That's what I was thinking or keep a box in the trunk with a "FREE - TAKE ONE" sign and leave it out near the car on the next cruise night.
I take all my old mags and paperback books etc. to the hospital near here and donate them to the volunteers who run the Gift Shop. Men never find any men-type magazines (cars, bikes, hunting, fishing, boating, sports, etc.) in hospital waiting rooms so I try to help out. My wife donates all her excess mags and books to them too.
sell 'em to me. Good old mags like yours are rare in germany. Here we only got VW Tuning,....... Please sell em to me!
I've been given tons of old car mag collections over the years. I love giving them to kids. And my wife works for a dermatologist, and she fills the waiting room mag rack with them. They always disappear (perfect way to liquidate a big inventory),and she's gotten a lot of positive feedback from patients and their spouses.
A friend of mine packed several boxes of old magazines and talked his boss into paying the shipping to send them to the troops in Iraq.
You can probably sell them to a dealer if they're in good shape. I've been known to sell extras for a buck a shot at swap meets and if someone wants a whole box, give them a deal. You could put them on craigslist, too, although that's getting so there's so many people just policing it flagging ads they don't like it's becoming a pain in the ***.
our car club has been sending them to the troops, lots of gearheads over there with nothing to read...box em up and send them over mench
Take them to your local USO and they'll send them to the troops, they love 'em! Find your local USO here
Gave my small mags. [Hop Up ect.] from the 60's to kids in neighborhood. They were given to me years ago. Approx. 150 of them. I ve got proably 500 mags. now from late 70's to current that I will have to clean out. This gives me some ideas as what to do with them.
I have a few going back to 1947 well over 3000 mags all of honk ,hop up ,rod&custom and most of hot rod and hundreds of others. I gave boxes to the auto shop at our local high school. Gave a pile of small mags to a 24 year old friend who built a killer chopped 53 Chev with his dad as a father son project now he is chopping and customizing cars in Toronto for a living. P*** THE TORCH.
All good ideas here, another is local big brothers and sisters or any kids organizations. Heck, even shelters. That stuff just taking up space sould be a cherished treasure to some kid who has nothing.
Took some to the Dr. office once, the gal at the front desk said they would throw them out. To old. Took some to my daughters hair salon & the little stink trashed them the next day. To old. Mostly I give them to kids that come around to check out my cars. School shop cl*** works good to.
When I was selling stuff on e-bay I used them for packing. You don't have to tear them up, just roll them up. Using flat rate boxes weight is no issue.
If any one wants to get rid of old car mags. send them to are troops over sea's. I got back from Afganistan in Sept. 08 was in Kabul for a year. I an can tell you this, my heart would skip a beat every time i found a car mag. even car and driver was good for 15 min. of down time. Bike mags or and real car mag would get p***ed around for weeks. You could even take them to a recruting station and thay can get them out. AM1 (AW/SW) Murray 15 year Navy Vet.
